Electronic Program Guide in XML?
Does the Electronic Program Guide data that Sage obtains get written to a disk file in XML?

No, it gets stored in Wiz.bin. But it would be possible to write a plugin that uses the SageTV API to retrieve the data from Wiz.bin and write it out in any format you please. Nielm's XML generator does exactly that for recordings, but it would be equally easy to do it for all EPG entries, not just the ones that have been recorded.

... something which my webserver already does (search results for all future airings in XML.)

what I will soon badly need is an automated scheme where each time the EPG gets re-downloaded, or merely once daily, a new XML file gets created.
I use the XML to create my own scrollable guide format that has a super high WAF. The format has evolved and been WAF-optmized. An example is enclosed. There's a second format, sorted by channel. The CSS-defined font sizes/colors are chosen for use on-screen at 800 x 600 pixels, and for those with less than perfect eyesight. The impetus for my question is that the data source I've been using is at risk of going away. I would be delighted if someone would develop a utility as an EXE that I could run (automaticallY) once a day, or it could be run by Sage after each EPG update. I'd send some gift certificates for In-n-Out or some such. Last edited by stevech; 06-22-2007 at 01:27 PM. |

It's times like this that I wish SageTV supported skins instead of Studio development; it would be kind of cool to have an orange Sage
nice job stevech; can't you simply grab the XML file from neilm's web server? That seems like a relatively simple job to script (assuming you use the webserver, of course). Stu |

I don't know what I don't know!
would the web server automatically regenerate an XML version of the EPG, say, daily? Last edited by stevech; 06-22-2007 at 05:13 PM. |

So, the web server can serve an XML version of the entire (current) EPG?
If so, great. I will go take a look at that. Last edited by stevech; 06-23-2007 at 11:29 PM. |
