Returned to SageTv yet again

Well, after trying comcast dvrs, media center and a whole bunch of other alternatives such as front row for apple and apple tv, wasting my time for the past one week, I finally relieved all my stress and worry when I went back to sagetv. There is no other application out there that does what sage can do. This is the third time I have done this, and the third time I wasted my time.
I know now, just to stay here.

Mo

First of all, no search function! You can't type in a TV show name anywhere to find it. You have to find it in the guide, viewing 5 channels or so, with only about 2 1/2 hours worth of guide data on the screen before scrolling.

There's no way to filter the guide with a list of channels. If you don't receive the premiums, tough, you'll still get the guide data for all of them.

I do have a comcast HD-DVR in my media room, so I can record the HD premium channels (hbo, cinemax, starz, showtime) but that's pretty much all I use it for.

My problem was that I had a comcast dvr in my bedroom and one in the living room. No way to share video between them that has been recorded. Also the comcast schedule series sucks! It recorded every show though I listed only new episodes. Now I use one box for sagetv only video s-video out, and the other as a dvr for high definition shows. I also missed sagetv media center (videos) because it is fast and easy to maneuver.
Lates!

Yes, SageTV may not be perfect, but it's a far sight better than the competion; that's for sure.

Actually I think if you reread the post the short coming was a cable box dvr not SageTV. Sage does have a search function which I use on a regular basis.

Thanks for doing the leg work, trying out the competition to SageTV. It's a nice assurance that SageTV is still the best PVR software.

The stories I heard about Apple TV was that the disk space is tiny, compared to having a TB or more disk, and Apple TV may tie you by the neck to the Apple store.

I've got my parents hooked to Comcast DVR boxes and they are terrible for those reasons outlined above. The way it handles recording series, especially sports, makes them un-usable. I had to hook my Dad's old Tivo back up so he could watch his sports. Now I'm thinking about moving them to HD Tivos but then they can't watch ondemand. I really don't know what to do. Sage is not an option for them and switching around is difficult and expensive for them because I set them up with a custom AMX remote.

Sharing the media off the motorola SD/HDTV DVR box is coming soon so if you have one in the bedroom and the other in the living room you can use wireless media device that lets' you access the media from one to the other. Well I have COX Communcation this how it's explain to me that's going to happen. I can't wait!
