Wireless MVP...only it doesn't have wireless?
I just bought a wMVP from Sage to use on my kitchen TV. I got it today, and the box says its wireless, the body of the unit has a wired and wireless MAC address sticker, but there is no antenna, and when you hook it up it only looks for a wired connection. Am I missing something? or have I somehow gotten a wired unit in a wireless shell, and need to get them to send me a replacement?

No antenna is probably a good sign that you got the wrong unit. No antenna connection I assume?

Weird though that it has a wireless MAC address sticker on it. I wonder if somebody pulled a fast one and swapped bottoms on a returned unit. I'll go email them and tell them they sent me the wrong thing. Last edited by Karride; 07-17-2007 at 08:09 AM. |

I think they all have MACs for both interfaces even if only the wired is present.

I agree that someone might have pulled a fast one and returned a wired unit for a refund of the cost of a wireless. Just guessing...

None of my wired units have a wireless MAC...

And I noticed when I pulled it out of the box that one side looked like it wasn't quite clipped in right. I'd say something is definatly fishy
I emailed the order department, I asked if they'd let me keep this one and just send me a wireless unit for the price of a wired unit. I think I may take out the computer that drives the projector in the living room and just use an MVP box, it would be quieter, and atke up a lot less room. |

And will probably give a better picture...

Which would give a better picture? Right now its a VGA dsub via extension to the projector. would an S-video actually be better than that?

Ah, hard to say then. The MVP is always better than S-Video from a graphics card IMO, but D-Sub would probably be better. You have a MVP, try it and see!

BTW: I just heard that SageTV accidentally received wireless MVP boxes that had wired MVPs inside. So, if anyone ordered a wireless MVP & received one of these mis-boxed units, just contact SageTV.

My recently received MVP has wired and wireless MAC addresses on the sticker but seems to have no wireless. It's not impossible that they now manufacture the unit with both wireless and wired chips and just change the case and firmware to suit, in the distribution chain (cheaper to manufacture).
