I asked and here was Silicondust response (7/12/07):

Hi,

We have a proof of concept but no formal release date at this stage.

I will raise the question internally.

Any update on this? I was just (now!) about to purchase the Linux OEM SageTV s/w for use with my HDHomeRun unit, and then tripped over this posting.

There really oughta be a proper list of differences between the Linux and Windows versions of SageTV here..

We are waiting for Silicondust to port their application for the Sagetv linux users. They've been promising since January, so don't hold your breath.

Okay. The problem with the HDHR is that it uses "special" drivers, rather than a standard Linux V4L2 or DVB kernel interface. If one were to simply code up a kernel V4L2 module that presents a standard interface, then it would work with SageTV, as well as with most other apps, and in the same way as with most other devices.

I can do this (I'm one of the original kernel hackers, circa 1992-present). Anyone want to sponsor this effort with a SageTV-for-Linux license? Shouldn't take more than a few weeks (elapsed, not effort) to complete.

??

Cheers

This seems like a legit effort that would benefit the community. I wonder if Sage TV (Narflex, etc) could offer a development license to aid the effort?

I'd really like to see this ability, especially now that the HD Media Extender is around the corner. A lightweight (disk-heavy), headless Linux box would make a great storage dump for HDHomeRun streams to use with HD Extenders.

In fact, the entire SageTV Linux backend server could be bundled as an Rpath Software Appliance, which would cut down on support issues immensely. It would be kind of like a Linux version of a Windows Home Server deployment (but cheaper overall).

MythTV seems to be working just fine with the HDHomeRun. How'd they do it?

Send a message via ICQ to _Demo_
It should already be working with the latest beta version.

Ok, Sagetv can see hdhomerun tuners 0 and 1 now in Video Menu.

I have'nt figured out how to get hdhomerun in linux to see my QAM channels.

# update #
1-22-08 I got a couple HD channels to showup

---- Sagetv Notes -----
Just select 'Cable' for the input type and then have it do a channel
scan.
When it does the scan it'll find all of your channels. If you select a
lineup then you can manually map the channels from the lineup to those
found
in the QAM scan (there's no way to automate it). Or you can just
select no
lineup and then just use the numbered channels.

How did you get HDHOMERUN visible?

What steps did you go through to get the HDHOMERUN visible via SageTV Linux? Did you use the ivtv drivers at all? Did you use the libhomerun stuff by Silicondust? Did you set any flags in the properties files?

Thanks!

Your work has inspired me to try to transition to Linux again

I have'nt spent enough time looking at it, but had some success.

I installed my fedora core 8 cdrom from scratch and then installed sagetv as per instructions..

HDhomerun showed up as a device, I have WOW as my cabletv company.
Used sagetv to scan channels... and noticed that 54 channels appeared.
BUT I only see 2 HD channels.. I should see 7 HD channels. Now Channel 7 looks like a physical address 113-1008-200

I downloaded HDhomerun_config and compiled it

http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun...evelopment.pdf

I'm not sure why, but I'm finding that windows version of hdhomerun is finding more channels than my linux side.

Update: Not true anymore .. i see all my HD channels through hdhomerun. Works perfect for me

A bit more success...

I'm using FC8 as well. I realized my system wasn't seeing the HDHomeRun because of the Fedora Firewall defaults. Shutting that off meant it can see the HDHomeRun. However, I can't seem to watch any of the HD based channels on the Linux Placeshifter client nor on my PC Sage Client. I can mark something to record and playback the recorded file in VLC fine but it won't playback within the sage interfaces. Of course, this means figuring out whether I have the same channels in Linux pretty difficult (since most just come up with the hyphenated info and nothing else).

I've also noticed that when I watch the sagetv_0.txt output file, I see constant Java exception thrown every half second or so. Are you seeing any exceptions? Also, what kind of video card/drivers are you running in Fedora?

What's the latest on HDHR support with Sage for Linux?

I found the HDHR worked without a problem on my Windows all in one box. I want to move to Sage Linux backend. What's the current status?

I have no problems with the Linux version using the HDHR. But I'm using it headless only (which means it's just a server with no TVs or LCDs attached).

That would be my exact situation. I've got a headless Linux box as a NAS for everything on the network now and I figure it would make a great SageTV Server so I can put a small little box like the new HD extender at the TV.

How did you setup the HDHomerun? I've got a headless box as well, I don't really have a way to run the hdhomerun config gui on Linux. I've already run it on Windows and have the enabled channels setup. What do I do then?
