Any way to set Sage to include the overlay CC into the mpg video file?

I am still using trail version of SageTV and got Closed Caption up and running on a PVR-500 using VM9 Overlay which is very nice since standard CC is black bar with white texts on it and the VM9 Overlay make the black bar more transparent but still white texts and it the best CC I ever seen.

So my question is that is there a way to tell SageTV to include the CC on the video mpg? I don't mean including the CC code imbedded into mpg but already decoded and overlayed on the video before it write to mpg file.

Reason for that is I wanted to be able to see the CC no matter what mpg viewer I am using to playback since it would be part of the video itself.

I know there won't be way to turn it off but I don't want it off just permentaly imbedded into the mpg video.

If this possible then SageTV got my 80 buck for sure!!

Thank you!
Bill

Basically it sounds like you want it to convert the Closed Captions in the broadcast stream into Open Captions before it saves the MPEG. I dunno if that is possible.

In the other thread you mentioned extracting out the captions into an .smi file. Did you see if PowerDVD could play the .smi files as subtitles on an MPEG file? Yes, it isn't OC, but if you could get your viewer set up correctly, you could just duplicate that setup where ever you needed.

PowerDVD has this listed as a feature,
Quote:
External subtitle support allows playback via AVI, DivX and WMV files (supports SRT, SUB, SSA, ASS, PSB, and SMI extensions)

Yeah it excatly what your saying is that I want to covert it to an open caption before it saved into the mpeg so I could play it back on any mpeg player with caption on it. One example can be a portable mpeg player which does not either have CC or subtitle support.

It on the screen so wonder if there a way to record what seen on the screen into a mpeg which includes the overlay captions. I am sure there are mpeg recorders that records everything on display but I would preferred if SageTV have this feature so it one less application eating cpu tasks.

Hopefully someone know or one of the SageTV folks can show a trick of saving anything on video into mpeg file

So is it possible or not to force SageTV to record everything that output to TV into mpeg file including any overlay videos?

Thank you

5 day until trial period ends ...

I got 5 more days until my SageTV trial period ends.

I am juggling between SageTV and MythTV and both are great PVR. I have setup both and tested both out but if there a way for SageTV to record Closed Caption along with the video ie "Open Caption" when it recorded so I don't have to depend on some mpeg player with CC support then I would instantly purchase SageTV.

I have already post asking about it and there seem to be no answer to it so I assuming that it can't be done with current version of SageTV. I will still purchase it if there some hints that it might be avaiable in future version of SageTV.

Unless I missing something or a string in propeteries that allow Caption to be recorded along with the video then let me know please!

Thank you
Bill

I haven't heard about anything about saving the CC as open captions into the file as its recorded. Perhaps there is a program that could be used to process the recorded file and have it write the captions as open captions.

You may want to give videohelp.com a browse and see if you can find anything.

And you may want to send in a request to Sage to see if any of the programmers have any info for you, http://sage.tv/request.html .
