Hook to launch xine for DVD playback?

Is anyone successfully having SageTV launch an external linux DVD player (like mplayer, xine, or ogle) for DVD playback?

I'm currently using MythTV and in my setup it launches Xine to play my ripped DVDs and DVD disks. I was hoping there would a hook to do the same thing with SageTV.

Thanks

Looking around the forums I've seen references to custom STVs that allow for a separate media player to be used for certain file types.

Is there any reason to believe that this will not work on Linux? Specifically I would want to specify the media player to run for an iso file. Likewise it would be cool to be able to specify a media player for /dev/dvd

There are some great linux DVD players, so I'm fine with this functionality not being implemented in SageTV. I just don't want to have to fire up an xterm to play my ripped DVDs.
