Hava Control
How do you go about getting the HAVA hardware to control a cable box. It is setup and tunes properly in the HAVA player but I am not sure how to get Sage to send the right signals.
Do I have to correctly configure Sage as if it was controlling the cable box? It appears this is the method for MCE. If so, that sucks because I would have to buy a USB/UIRT just to fake the system out ![]() Thanks Alan mr.com ![]()

I do believe that you will have to configure the set-top box via a USB-UIRT... I don't believe that the pseudo-driver (that Sage sees...) allows for channel changing capabilities... It's a great idea though... maybe, considering that the HAVA unit is capable of changing the channels on it's own, future drivers will be able to allow this level of integration via it's emitters. So far, I see a lot to like, but even more is on my wish list for 'true' integration... Have you had a chance to play with the WinMo client yet? Nice streaming... albeit the interface is somewhat lacking... -Jason

I have it hooked up via composite connection on my old cable box right now and I am pretty happy with the TV streaming. Integration with Sage and MCE make it a pretty powerful device
![]() As a stand alone device (HAVA player only), I find it hard to recommend to the HTPC world but I think that will change once I get a chance to play more with Sage and MCE.

![]() The deciding factor for non-HTPC users would have to be the non-PC based streaming that is available... but WE can get that without the HAVA with Placeshifter, ORB, etc., although with slightly (possibly...) longer transcoding/streaming times...

Thanks for the review. Have you tried using it to record HD content via the component input? I know it will down-rez everything to 480i but I'm curious about the quality.
My stupid local cable company disables the s-video output for all of their HD capable set-top-boxes so the only way for me to record shows in 16:9 via ESPNHD or DiscoveryHD is through a Hava box. |

If the content is good, I cannot imagine that it would be anything less than the great results I have with SD however... -Jason
