Disabled UAC and lost ALL setup info and cookies??
Got fed up with fifteen clicks to reassure Vista every time i wanted to do something, so I disabled UAC. First thing I noticed was that my IE cookies were gone. Next thing was that sage was acting like a fresh install. I have searched the whole harddrive, but both the wiz.bin and wiz.bak files are dated as a new install. I think I'm doomed to set everything up again, but why did this happen so I can at least be smarter? It's not like vista eliminated an entire user, because the desktop is still the same. And I only have one use, which is of course the admin.

This is all speculation, and I'm not home right now to check things out, but...
I disabled UAC immediately on my fresh vista install. It was the first thing I did after the install completed. Everyone here says that under vista, the Sage.properties and Wiz.bin are not in the \Program Files\SageTV\SageTV directory, but in the \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore directory tree. Well, mine aren't! That tree is empty, and my config files are in the same place that they used to be under XP, in the program files tree. So... maybe UAC disables the "virtual store" crapola. Try copying your sage.properties and wiz.bin files from the virtual store area into your \program files\sagetv\sagetv directory. |

Just seconding what Davin said here. I had to go through this when I turned UAC off and copying those files worked for me.

Sure enough, once I figured out that I had to have vista show hidden files, I found my old wiz files. Oh well, already have it up and running again anyway, not as painful as I thought. One other note for anybody who stumbles across this, it also hosed up my HDHR config, as the Sage tab was gone. Simple reinstall fixed it, also led me to discover there's a new HDHR beta dated 8/20. Differences aren't jumping out at me yet, but it seems to work fine.
This is what I get for simultaneously being a sagetv and vista noob! Baptism by fire! Thanks to both for your help! |
