Divx Media Extender

http://www.electronista.com/articles...tv.competitor/
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives...t_smarter.html

Just saw this today. Not much details, but seems to be SD output only based on the outputs on the back (composites and S-Video), although I don't know whats that big black plug is on the back of the unit. Not sure who makes the unit, but it seems like a Divx version of the MVP. They claim to be an "open" platform. At $100, it could be a very interesting product for those with a huge divx library.

I wonder if the big black plug may be a Scart connector? Or maybe component out. It says it outputs at 720p, That is better than SD right? Like as in HD maybe. Wonder if it could be used as a cheap HD extender like the MVP...

Interesting..

That doesn't look like a component connector, the article says it can do 720p, maybe it means it will just play them, but actually only outputs at SD.... By the time someone got that working with Sage, assuming it even could be, hopefully the supposed HD extender would be out.

It looks just like a SCART connector

Kinda what I thought. Never had seen the cable that hooked to a Scart connector before. I have one of the connectors on the back of an old Panasonic TV I bought in Japan back in 1986..

Here is a decent writeup. http://www.homecinemachoice.com/arti...0102_scart.php

Looks like a Scart connection can be lots of things. I know they have been around a long time, and are mainly used overseas.

That's a SCART connector. It's widely used in European nations. It carries RGB/YPbPr signals, composite, as well as two channels <i.e. left and right> of audio.

All signals are analog. The cable typically features a shield. I believe that it was introduced to make connecting components together (i.e. tv, dvd, stereo, etc.) much easier.

You can find more information on SCART and the standard by searching for "SCART" on wikipedia.

From what I read, this thing doesn't even send a divx stream, it decodes the divx stream and sends uncompressed or mpeg2 video to the box (just like the MVP).

Seems rather pointless to me...why call it a divx extender if it can't decode mp4 ??
