Unhappy Sagetv and Sports

For the frist time I watched sports live via my HTPC/250 card and the the game looked funny, It was shuttering an just did not look normal when ever the action got moving fast. Why is this, Is sports a no-no via HTPC's ? Is there something I can do other then watching sports with input minus the htpc...which is a option for me.
thanks

What recording quality did you use? What decoder/deinterlacing did you use?

I was not recording it I was watching the game live via my HTPC VGA output.
but at that time my HTPC was set to record everything at it's highest setting

Video decorder ? Something called "inter video non-css video decorder for Hauppauge" Is this what you mean ?

Thanks

Try the registry hack for Hauppauge 250 users described in the Note link at the top of this forum. It help dramatcally on my system.

So you recorded it using MPEG2 Max 5 GB per hour and are using the Intervideo decoder bundled with the Hauppauge card. What deinterlacing method are you using? It sounds like a deinterlacing problem if all of the aboe is true.

I use football as my measuring stick for picture quality.
I haven't yet got it 'PERFECT', but it's being encoded - so it will never look exactly like a live feed.

That being said - the best PQ I've got for sports so far is using the Elecard decoder (with the dscaler settings enabled) - and setting it to a static bitrate. Apparently when the camera speeds up to follow the action, the bitrate has to quickly increase to follow it, and it gets that blurring.

Guys thanks for the post. But I never watch recorded sports anyway only live. So it sounds a lot easier if I just use another output from my ird and go right to the TV with it bypass the HTPC all togetter. Movies and TV shows look great with sage/HTPC/DVR and that is what I bought it for anyway.

Thanks for the help

Edit to add, yep it was Football with me also.......It just did not look right.

I really wanted it to be great with football (my wife and I are freaks) - but it's just not GREAT... it's good enough to watch a replay of a game, but I wouldn't want to watch the game through Sage just to get the pause feature.

I watched football through my friend's Tivo - and it looked pretty similar. Good, but not perfect.

Mess around with some of the other video decoders (Elecard, etc) and see what works.. and for sports definitely try the static bitrate setting.
