Weird DVD issue

Hi all,

New user here.

I've installed SageTV and it all works perfectly with the exception of playing DVD movies.

Every time I try and play them it gives a 'CSS or Macromedia error' message.

I've tried all the different Codec I have, including the Cyberlink ones.

Strange thing is that if I play the same movie on the same computer it works fine under Cyberlink PowerDVD.

Any thoughts?

Did you set the DVD capable decoder in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> DVD?

If so, what type of output are you using? There may be a DVD resolution limit regarding the type of connection to your TV.

Are you using component by any chance?
If so, see this thread and the ones following it.

Output is s-video

As for the decode I've used all I have, including the Sage, haupauge (which shouldn't work), and Cyberlink decoder.

None have worked.

Just to double check: you changed the DVD decoder in the place I mentioned above, not the MPEG2 video decoder option?

(And, right: the SageTV and Hauppauge decoders can not be used for commercial encrypted DVDs.)

Yes, DVD decoder option, not Mpeg-2

Not to beat a dead horse but I have one quick question (ok actually 2).

1. I am using component cables on my Sage PC. The DVD plays perfect using the Power DVD software through the component out but Sage gives me the error message. I have tried both the Cyberlink and Nvidia codecs and unregistered the Sage mpeg-2 codec. Is it just Sage that does not let the component work?

2. Should I be able to watch DVDs over my media extender on my 21" TV in the bedroom? All it does is give me a black screen.

Is SageTV trying to play them at a higher resolution? If you are sure that a DVD-capable decoder is being used, have you tried a different output resolution or different type of connection?

The SageTV extenders can play non-encrypted DVDs that are on your hard drive (such as home-made DVDs) in a format described in Appendix I of the SageTV manual. Commercial disks in your DVD drive cannot be played by an extender.

How can I tell if Sage is trying to play at a different resoloution. The didsplay is set to 1280x960 and it playes on the Power DVD fine. I thought Sage played DVDs on the native resolution to the PC.
