Need to re-install windows, how can I backup sage install

I need to re-install windows on my SageTV box, what is the best way for me to backup all of my SageTV settings, recordings history, etc and restore Sage once I've finished re-installing windows? All of my recorded content, mp3s, etc are on a seperate drive from my windows install so I don't need to worry about backing up all of that.

Thanks

It's not uncommon for me to wipe out my OS hard drive and re-install a fresh copy every few months. The way I back up Sage when I do this is to copy the Sage Root directory (usually C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV). This saves all of my settings (I may have to re-select my stv in the advanced settings and re-import some of my add-ons, but that's it).

Although I believe there may be mention of what exactly to back up in the SageFAQs somewhere (I think it's the sage/sageclient.properties,wiz.bin,wiz.bak files) , and even a tool someone developed at some point in time to automatically back up Sage. Backing up the whole sage directory then replacing it after the install is just the easiest way for me.

Thanks. I tried copying the entire directory but that didn't seem to work too well. I couldn't get sage to start as a service after doing this so I uninstalled sage and started over. I ended up following the steps in this post:

and that worked for me.

Yeah, now come to think of it, I do this kind of bavckup much more regularly with my clients than my server.

Glad you found that FAQ. I knew it was there somewhere: I just started looking for it then my ADD kicked in.
