Controlling a STB??
I have a question concerning the control of a STB through SageTV. I recently changed to a new cable provider which provides digital video over a fiber network.
The STB is an AmiNet110 made by Amino. The back of the STB has a usb port, but no serial port. Where would I start to find out if Sage can control the STB through this usb port. Here is a link to info about the STB. https://secure.techxpress.net/vsicam...T110_flyer.pdf Below is a response I got from a company that sells the AmiNet110. I have asked your question to our engineers, but nobody here has ever used the USB port for anything. The spec sheet does not mention what the USB port is used for either. Please refer to Amino tech support for an answer to this questions (www.aminocom.com). Sorry that we could not be more helpful on this matter. Feel free to contact me with any other questions about IPTV hardware. Unfortunately Amino only provides tech support to the cable provider. So should I attempt this or is a there a better solution to control the STB? Thanks for all your help and expertise. Regards Jeff |

Does the STB have an IR remote? You'll probably end up having to use an IR blaster to change the channel.

Yes it does have an IR Remote, I figured that would probably be the answer.
Do you know is there a thread which explains how the IR blaster works? Thanks |

basically you set up an IR blaster so that Sage knows about it, and can use it to send IR commands. then when you set up a video source, you tell Sage that you will be using the blaster to control the STB.
there is a FAQ on remote and blasters, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6282 , but the easiest/most popular way is to use a USB-UIRT as your IR receiver/blaster, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2102 .
