Freezes/pauses in SageTV after changing channel and question about Client PC

I am currently running SageTV Media on a 2.4Ghz box with 1Gig of ram and PVR500 / GT6600 Video card. Setup is SageMC and using PowerDVD decoder also using showanalyer and dirmon for commerical skippings.

It works and records great but I got a 1-2 second freeze/pause in the video everytime I change channel but it occur about a minute after changing a channel.

Example I change a channel and it would change fine then in a minute into the show after changing channel it would freeze/pause the video for 1-2 seconds.

My other question about the client is that I just install SageTV client on my laptop to watch it on my laptop. My laptop is a 1.2Ghz with only 512K ram and a Gforce Go440 video but I figure since it only a client that it doesn't need to be on the high end computer and my issue with this is that it pauses 1-2 seconds every 5 or 6 minutes of playing and I would see my laptop harddrive flicker. Any idea why it doing this? I am watching it linked to my SageTV above via wireless and using trial copy and will my SageTV key work on my client or I have to pay another 80 dollar for client?

One last question is client for local networking only? or Can I connect to SageTV at home like via internet? I tried the placeshifter but closed caption does not work at all and it was very choppy even for a 100Mbit network.

Thank you
Bill

Try it via a wired connection; your wireless connection may not be able to keep up with video streaming.

First, you would need another license because you aren't allowed to use the same license on more than 1 PC. Second, you would only need a client license, not another full server license.

SageTV Client is for a local network. Placeshifter can be used for local or remote connections.

Try turning off your commercial scanning for a bit and see if that helps. A one minute lag may be the time that it takes dirmon to see the new recording and then fire off showanalyzer.

Actually, a client can be more demanding than the server and need better equipment. Playback requires more horsepower than recording. Your SageClient will need a SageTVClient license, http://store.sagetv.com/Merchant2/me...tegory_Code=SS , $30.

SageClient is for LAN use only. You can use the placeshifter for internet or LAN usage. embedded CC doesn't work on the placeshifter or MVP. For the placeshifter, you need to run the CC plugin to use .smi files. SO, no LiveTV on the placeshifter with CC. As for quality, it will be poor since it has to be transcoded down to steam across a 128-768k upload. And transcoding takes server CPU horsepower. You should be ok with a 2.4P4, but just barely. But LAN usage that doesn't transcode should be decent without much server CPU usage.

That why I am always hoping one day one of the programmer would stop seperating CC as a another "overlay" and instead write it direcly on video and save in mpeg so we deaf wouldn't have to deal with all those craps 8-( just to get CC working on other sources like MVP etc.

If hearies doesn't want it then they can turn it off or have an option to write it as an overlay and not recorded imbedded into the video itself.

I definitely feel for you. I suffer from otosclerosis which gave me around 30db hearing loss in both ears. I just recently had a stapedotomy done which pretty much gave me normal hearing in one ear. CC was used frequently when I watched TV before Sage.

Then, for nearly 2 years, I had to do without CC in Sage. I kept looking out for CC support for my PVR-150 and 500 and finally found it hidden in a beta driver. I finally had CC in Sage. CC support for digital recordings is still missing, but with JREkiwi's CC plugin and ccextractor, its almost acceptable.
