All kinds of love!

Go ahead and download this perl2dvd.exe and replace the original with it. I just tested it so it should be working

Im stuck at install

I guess I can't figure this out. How do I load the XML into SageTV if I have to fully shutdown SageTV/SageTV Client/SageTV Service?

I thought I had it figured out by going into SageTV and going to detailed setup and loading something there so I tried loading the SageMC_169_ep.xml and now all I get when I launch SageTV is
Failed to Load ...
Fall back to st...

with time and date at the top and temp down at the bottom. I can't even get it to fall back to the original sage tv. I think I am hosed.

The message you see is what happens when you are using dynamic menus but the dynamic menu definition file is invalid. If you hit the home button, I think it should reload the main menu using the standard menu system. If that doesn't work for you, you can always exit SageTV, open sage.properties (or sageclient.properties on a client or if using the service mode), and find the line a little bit down where the STV file is specified. It should show 'SageMC_169_ep.xml' at the end. Replace this with SageTV3.xml, save and exit. The next time you start sage, it should load the default STV.

Aloha,
Mike

Also this plug-in only works with the SageMC STV (SageMC_169.xml) which is a full replacement for the default STV (SageTV3.xml). It sounds like you tried to go from the default STV straight to this, and that won't work.

Follow the instructions linked below to get SageMC up and running and then when you try to install this plug-in it will go much better

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17979

edit: Also, shutting down everything is just needed for extracting the files and I've updated the instructions to be clearer on that point.

The issue is that when you try an HDTV-PS stream from SageTV Handbrake can't recognize the audio bitrate which causes it to error out. Its most likely a HandBrake issue as mencoder/ffmpeg and every other tool I use have no issue with the recordings. I posted the info/test content on their forums a few weeks ago but its been pretty much ignored as the dev who added the HDTV support has been working on his own project. Popping over there and logging a bug report of you're own can't hurt. Its not like they could ignore us more

I'm now using an HDHR for my HD programming. I vaguely recall that it is a TS stream. If that's true, will Handbrake work on that?

It depends, if you're using it as a network encoder it will capture the raw TS and you should be able to use HB right now, however, if you are using it as a BDA encoder then Sage will convert TS->PS on the fly then Mencoder is your only option.

(To find out which mode you're in check your encoder list and if the HDHR has an IP address next to them then you're in network encoder mode.)

IMHO its not too big of a deal because (with a little help from the community) the Mencoder profiles are producing fantastic HDTV encodes. Just yesterday I encoded most of my HDTV shows from this season and even on my 42" 1080p HDTV I can barely tell the diffrence between the original 7GB mpeg-2 and the encoded 700MB h.264.

About the only benefit that HB would give is getting 5.1 AAC/Vorbis audio and mkv/mp4 containers for free which I haven't implemented yet for mencoder. But if it turns out the upcoming STX-1000 is able to handle AAc 5.1 in mkv/mp4 then you better believe that moves to the top of my todo list

That's great, but at least on my system mencoder takes easily 1.5 times as long to encode as HB. With the volume of compressions I'm doing, that is a big hit.

It should be finished pretty soon. I'm hoping to have commercial cutting, auto cropping, mkv containers for mencoder, and (hopefully) 5.1 AAC audio ready by this weekend... just in time for the STX-1000

...
...
...

Still no progress on DVD burning. I'm having too much fun with the video compression :-p

Yep, the only addition is that I'm deinterlacing 1080i. The picture is just a bit smoother that way.

Are you seeing hardware assist for h.264 playback with the profile you are using?

Thx
Mike

I don't have a video card capable of hardware assited h.264 decoding so I really couldn't say.
