Slow Music Library and Next/Previous Track

1) Browsing the music library is incredibly slow. I hit the down button in the while browsing Albums, for example, and it takes ~3 seconds to move the selection down. Then, eventually Sage just stops responding completely. The task manager does not indicate any problems (CPU and memory usage are normal). I have the most recent JRE (v6). This happens in both the default and SageMC STVs. I thought maybe it was due to thumbnail generation but surely this must be done by now (367 albums)? Any ideas about this?

2) I can't figure out how to go to the next track when playing music. The manual says you can use "Page Up" or "Ctrl+Up" to go to the next track. But when are you never on a menu such that this command applies to the music playback and not the UI/menu?? I need a command that works no matter where I am in the UI since I will often have my TV off and will want to advance to the next track.

Thanks for any help.

Re: #1 - I had similar problems, cncb, but my navigation issues were resolved by using SageMC. I never bothered to follow-through with support on it because I'm happy with MC's functionality. If I were you, sounds like you might want to open a support case with Sage.

As for #2 - Have you tried using both of your FF/RW sets of buttons? I'm pretty sure in SageMC my big FF button will do this. But, if a menu has it mapped - I think it overrides it. A lot of times the windows I'm in will have the music "now playing" section in the bottom left. Quickly clicking on that will get you where you need to be, and a simple "back" will get you where you were. I think this might be a question for the SageMC thread, however, to see if it can even be done (where a button can be defined to work anywhere for this).

Thanks for the reply.

1) I am only evaluating the trial at the moment so I don't expect them to offer support if I don't have a license but I might try.

2) What sets of FF/REW buttons are you referring to (a special remote)? I am controlling it with Girder so I need a global command for "next track" like the pause, stop, and play commands seem to be.

I use a Hauppauge 45-button remote, so it's a little different. But I have four total buttons that function in FF/RW modes. Below are the Sage commands associated with them.

FF small = Skip Fwd/Page Right (Ctrl-F)
RW small = Skip Bkwd/Page Left (Ctrl-A)

FF large = Skip Fwd #2 (Ctrl+F6)
RW large = Skip Bkwd #2 (Ctrl+F5)

There are some other commands in SageTV available to you (Settings -> Detailed Settings -> Commands) that might do the trick for you as well...

Oh, I see. I did try the Skip Fwd #2 and it actually jumps ahead 2:30 so 2 presses will usually move on to the next track. However, Skip Back #2 will only go to the beginning of the song and not the previous track. I must just be missing the dedicated next/previous commands because the 2 available "next" commands seem to be tied to Page Up or Up so they just get applied to the current menu that you are in.

1) For slow music browser response, check your album art sizes... are the images really large? What is an average size for them? If they are large, try reducing the album art size. Also, for huge music collections (tens of thousands of songs), try increasing the Java heap size, mentioned in this post. Or, contact support about the issue so they can look into what else might be causing it.

2) There is no separate Channel up/down command to use for channel/track/chapter/etc changing on a UI menu. You can change the track on the music browser menus via the icon bar, or use the "TV" command (not the "Live TV" command) to jump to the playback screen, do whatever you want to whatever is playing, then use TV again to return to the UI menu where you were.

1) My typical cover art is 100-300K (1400x1400). Is this too large as far as Sage is concerned?

2) So, there is no way to perform a next/previous track without the display being on to activate/press the specific buttons on the playback screen? Is this the case with extenders too? Is there a way to implement the "Custom" commands such that next/previous could be performed from anywhere in the UI (i.e. with a remote such that the tv doesn't have to be on)?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I would consider that to be very large album art files.

The extenders use the same UI (STV) as any other client.

Yes, you could use the Custom commands to do this via a customization using Studio.
