SageServer and License
I just realized today that there was a SageTV Server for Linux. I currently have placeshifter and server for Windows.
My question is. Can i use my Server License on the Linux one???? I really hope i do not have to buy another license for both of these. |

Why is that so...I mean i am using the same PC.

Because different platforms use different licensing technology. The license keys themselves aren't compatible cross-platform.

They are different platform products and licenses are not convertible.

So what you are saying is that i will have to pay additional $80....this just don't feel right at all.

You don't have to pay anything. You're free to continue using the Windows product you already paid for.
If you'd rather switch platforms, that's your choice. Part of the cost of switching is buying new software that's compatible with your new platform. But nobody's forcing you to make the switch.

Keep in mind that Sage-Linux is designed to be OEM only. My guess would be that the license mechanism is designed for that specific usage - never intended to be platform swapable. If you have the Sage-Windows license, it IS swapable with the Sage-Windows Home Server product however.

I see. What about the license that i have for sagetv client? Does that mean i will also have to buy another license for sagetv client.

The client is licensed on the machine where you run it. So long as that client machine's OS hasn't changed, you shouldn't need a new client license.

All the licenses i have right now are for windows. I am trying to switch over to linux (Ubuntu). I will still use sage Placeshifter at work to watch tv or recorded shows. Do i need to buy another license for placeshifter.

Apart from bundles, I'm seeing just one flavor of Placeshifter license for sale in the SageTV store. There doesn't seem to be a separate "Placeshifter license for Linux server".

Just a reminder: if you want licensing details, your best answer will come from contacting SageTV directly.
Edit: Just in case that sentence could be mis-read... I'm referring to which licenses are valid on which systems, etc., not the number of licensed users for a platform. - Andy
