Early teething problems

I've just installed sage onto my HTPC, ran the setup, and everything was going well (Well, apart from not being able to setup my leadtek DVT1000T). The Hauppauge nova t 500 setup easily, and the remote works brilliantly. That was however till a recording started. My AMD 4200+ Dual core is now steaming away at 100% on both processors, leaving the PC pretty much unuseable for anything else. I can't even fiddle about with settings, because inputting each digit takes a full 20 seconds.
Any idea where I might have gone wrong with the setup?

System entails

abit AN-M2HD Motherboard
AMD 4200+ Dual Core processor
1Gb DDR2 RAM
Samsung spinpoint SATA II 500gb (50Gb for OS and progs, and the rest partitioned at 64k blocks for storage)
Hauppauge Nova T 500 Twin DVB-T card
Leadtek DVT1000T which crashes sage as soon as I select it as a source (So currently lies dormant)
Antec Fusion Black case

Well, I found the problem in a rather unexpected place. The VFD on the antec case was using all that processing power apparently. As soon as a recording started, the VFD began to use 99% of the processing power on both CPU's. With the VFD turned off and sage recording, CPU is down to 3%-4%.

Who makes the VFD/what software does it run? A new version (3.0.3.1) of the MPlay software from VL Systems (Zalman HD135 VFD) has a bad memory leak (500MB before I shut it down). v2.0.1.4 is fine.

It's the Soundgraph IMON VFD and IR Remote reciever.
I've searched for any updated drivers, but the website is a bit unclear about what driver supports what.
