Depending on what 'restore' means, your wiz.bin 'database' will only hold program data at the time of backup. If your recording drive was not erased then you can IMPORT the files, but the data recorded by the missing wiz.bin file on the lost drive is also lost.
I, usually, create DRIVE IMAGES of my OS/APP partition, but don't upgrade programs until I've recovered from whatever happened to cause the glitch. Once everything has been restored (or rebuilt) as far as I can then I do the SageTV upgrade.

Also, in the new UI when I go to program guide and tell it to record a show, I get the conflict icon in the box with the show and the show does not list in the recording schedule. What is going on here?

Check to make sure all of your Capture Sources are installed and working properly.

I also updated the Placeshifter software for my MVP and it appears pretty screwed up also.

I'm confused, Placeshifter and MVP are two different products. What issue are you having?
