IR Repeater - Over IP Network?
Hey folks, I've been trying to find something this morning and am having absolutely zero luck.
All I want is an IR repeater that transmits over my home network via TCP/IP. IR technology is cheap. 10/100 Ethernet technology is cheap. I'm actually surprised I can't find anything (cheap OR expensive) that does this. Anyone have any better luck finding this? Aside from typical Google searches, I've been looking at home automation sites, etc. Still no luck. Thanks for any thoughts!

there are low cost products to send IR over your TV RG6 coax concurrently with your TV RF signals.
There are also IR to RS232 serial. I use both of these. IR on LAN/IP is expensive. |

Also EventGhost will do it and transcode it as well.
This way you can have RF based remotes control an IR device across the internet if desired. |

I'm pretty sure you can use girder to do this but you need computers on either end..

You can look at http://www.irtrans.de/en/index.php. I have not tested their solution myself so I can not tell you how it works. But if you test it please let me know.

hi,
I use this: http://www.smarthome.com/8191.html but was able to run additional wiring for this purpose when building the house. There are 2 unused wires in your CAT5 cable but I'm not sure if that is a good idea and this solution needs 3 anyway. There are wireless solutions as well on the smarthome website plus quite some other more or less expensive solutions. Good luck |

Not if you run gigabit LAN or plan to upgrade to it in the future. Gigabit needs all four pairs.
