Sage Decoder Always Used
I'm not sure if this is a beta issue or not, but always uses the sage decoder for mpeg (i.e., SD tv recorded with my pvr150) no matter what I set the decoder or merits of the decoder to. However, HDTV always plays with the correct decoder (NVIDIA Purevideo). I tried setting the merits of all "sage" stuff in the filter manager to the lowest, and graphedit shows that nvidia is used for SD shows. However, Sage still apparently uses it's own encoder. I know it's the sage decoder because there is no nvidia icon during playback, and the picture has that "poorly deinterlaced" look that the sage decoder gives it.
Is this a beta issue, or did I mess something else up? |

I would double check that...often the Nvidia icon won't show when it is used in Sage unless it is set as default. You can be 100% sure by checking the log file and looking at the graph it is using when you play back.

Thanks Tox. You were right, I am using Nvidia for SD content too. I guess the question now is why does only SD content look different? Basically it looks like it is getting deinterlaced wrong. Like too much information is being taken out. Edges are very blocky, like it needs some antialiasing.
I recently upgraded my video card from an NVIDIA 6600 GT OC to a 7600 GS OC and upgraded to the latest NVIDIA drivers. I am still using the same Purevideo drivers (the latest version) and the interlacing on the NVIDIA codec is set to Best available. Does the 7600 have something in it that does this by design? |

Ok, not a beta issue at all (probably). It looks like the latest NVIDIA driver, 163.75, was causing deinterlacing issues with sage. It's not the only problem this driver caused with sage either. After installation of the video driver, sage wouldn't recognize my pvr 250 or pvr 150 cards (but would recognize my HDHR). They showed up fine in the windows device manager. Reinstalling the 150 and 250 seemed to work. I ultimately reverted back to an earlier version of the NVIDIA drivers which fixed all of my problems. I really hate NVIDIA drivers!
