So it won't be able to play VOB files, i.e. stored DVD;s on HD?

You'll be able to play hard drive based DVDs, like you can now with the MVP extender. (Neither one can play encrypted DVD content from DVD-ROMs.)

Of course, I understand that. I have a few DVD's based on the HD, vactions and the such, so not encrypted. I can only play those on my server as a dvd. If I attempt to play in placeshifter or media mvp it won't play, I think I can if I browse to and play the seperate vob files, but of course would rather use the dvd menu. So just to make sure I understood you correctly, we'll still have to play the individual vob files? Thanks!

Will there be a PAL and NTSC version, or (unlike the MVP), will it be able to playback both formats?

Ok, lets move this back on topic, I'm an idiot and was thinking from previous versions long ago. There is just to much excitement in my head right now for the new extender. I'll go back to sleep now and wait for the HD extender to come out

How about AAC(5.1) in an mp4 (mp4box) container?

Mpeg4, but no mention of DivX! Hmm!
It suddenly became less attractive! OK so it might transcode DivX, but as most of my files are in DivX format and less than HD resolution, I might as well stick with the MVP

I'd bet a months pay that it will do Divx/Xvid. There are tons of hardware media devices that do those. This box is rare in that it does x.264 and mkv.

DivX is an implementation of MPEG-4 ASP right? I see MPEG-4 ASP@L5 listed.

I know its supposed to be HD output, but there is the s-video socket... Given the choice between an MVP which only does mpeg2 or the HD extender, I'd take the HD extender provided it can still output PAL resolution.
