"-startup" and "ui/startup_type=2" BROKEN in SageTV 6.2.x
These options no longer work.

Works for me in 6.3.4.
According to the manual, neither option by itself has any effect. You need both ui/startup_type=2 in the .properties file and -startup on the command line to start in system tray mode.

Yup... that's how I've dont it in the past... It just doesnt want to do it this time.
