Audio level on HD Extender?

Is there a reason that the volume and mute seem to do nothing on my HD extender? All recordings and DVDs that I've watched seem to be just doing straight pass-thru to my receiver? The thing is that it is so loud that I need to have the receiver at -45db to watch/listen at a reasonable level. I'm using the SPDIF for now.

The volume and mute work on my HS extender using composite straight to SD TV. The only issue I have is that the volume is too low so I have to have the TV wait to loud which is inconvenient when switching from HD extender back to the dish receiver.

Must be something with the optical SPDIF then. I'm guessing this was actually by design.

SPDIF is normally just passthrough.

I guess so. I just got my HDMI cables and the volume is controllable when using them for audio.

Really? That's a surprise, I'd expect S/PDIF and HDMI to work the same. Maybe submit a bug report about S/PDIF audio.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but the HDMI cable is connected to my TV, whereas the SPDIF was connected to my audio receiver. I'll submit a bug report just incase.
