SageTV-> DVD

I am working on encoding a TV series to DVD for a personal archive. Any suggestions?

I was thinking of using the max quality, and then opening it up in virtualDub or something to edit it, and encode it for DVD. Any specific set of tools people found that works better than another for this job? I am familiar with doom9, but they obviously have a lot of different ways to do anything

No matter what I do, I will have to re-encode to get it to play on a DVD player right? Might as well anyway to cut commercials.

If you record to any of the DVD profiles you can use Womble MPEGVCR to chop out the commercials without re-encoding.

Probably should mention you can then burn it to DVD without re-encoding also.
