Issues, crashing on startup

I've been having problems for the last few weeks in starting SageTV. When the SageTV tries to start, half the time it will fail and do nothing (SageTVService is running, and usually always starts) Every time sageTV fails to start it makes an hs_err file (attached). I usually just have to keep starting it over and over and eventually it starts.

I completely removed Java and reinstalled it, to no avail. I installed the new Sage 6.3.... but after it installed 6.2.10.152 is still coming up?!

Well, looks like I can't upload the error file

I started seeing this in the last few weeks as well except my error dump shows the error was ntdll.dll (instead of jvm.dll).

Started happening within the last two weeks after I upgraded to 6.2. At that time I was running JRE 1.5.0_11 and after I started seeing the issues, I upgraded to 1.6.0_03 and I *thought* it had fixed it, but I think it's just the intermittent nature of the problem that made me think it was fixed.

It's really starting to frustrate me. I have sage setup to run as a service and on startup, the event log shows me that the service dies several times at startup before actually starting up.

Not sure what's going on.

EDIT: Acutally, looking back at my event logs, this started happening with my upgrade to 6.3.5

I just started seeing this too with 6.3.4.

Came to a head where sageTV wouldn't even load. ("100% profile...done" screen , then hang)

I did a clean install of 6.3.5 today, and seems to be working ok now...we'll see how long that lasts, but there is definitely something going on with the latest versions....

Are you guys still seeing these crashes with SageTVService.exe? I haven't seen it crash in a day now. What's your system config? Just trying to find some type of pattern to this.

Mine:
Nvidia 6150 Chipset (MSI K8NGM2-FID)
2GB RAM
SageTV 6.3.5
JRE6 Update 3
ATI Catalyst 7.10
Cyberlink Video Decoder
UNC mapped recording directories
1xPVR500
1xPVR250
1xArtecDTV
1xHDHR
Just disabled the STB/SGraphRecorder tuner

What's usually the cause of an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION?

Sorry for the delay. I have a fairly basic system, listed in sig, running XP Pro. I haven't touched the htpc in a few days, but it's still up and running.

I have had problems, too, with SageTVService not starting. However, at the time, I wasn't running debug mode. And, it hasn't been doing it lately. But, like mentioned here, all of these problems started about 3-4 weeks ago...

I think I may need to do a completely clean install of 6.3.5. I assumed installing it over the existing would work, but it's staying at 6.2.

In a bit of searching it's definitely a memory error, either through a bad allocation call or through bad RAM. If it still acts up, I may have to swap out sticks of ram... or I may try memtest86 one night.

I"m still seeing this on service startup. What usually happens is:

1) I reboot the machine, sagetv (client) waits for a while saying "Sage Service is initializing". If I go to the event viewer, I can see that the service tried to start, and then it got the hotspot crash, and then the service recovery tries to start it again and it usually succeeds the second time. After that, everything seems to run fine.

2) I use the SageTVServiceControl applet to start the service. I see the same message in the eventvwr and it ends up starting ok.

If I watch my processes in Task Manager, I see the service appear, disappear, and then after a minute appear again. Strange. I'm also not completely sure it's a memory issue. This just started happening to me after I upgraded to 6.3.5.

Strange...

I'm having the same problem and it's very frustrating. I have started missing recordings. I don't know if this is correct as I have not tried to reproduce the problem, but it seems to happen when I try to watch something with the extender as the show is recording. Again, I don't know if it's a coincidence, but it seems strange. My crashes seem to revolve around the ntdll.dll file. It started happening with the latest release version(6.3.5). I have since tried the newest 6.3.6RC and it's still happening. Anyone found a fix for this?

I recently posted Here thinking I had the same error as LazyGun but on closer inspection I believe I have the same problem as Rurik described in his original post back in December. My error log shows the same Socket Exception bit as his does.

Code:
Wed 3/26 20:36:31.158 SageTV received connection from:Socket[addr=/127.0.0.1,port=1181,localport=42024]

I kind of dropped the ball on this since it was only happening on startup and since I enabled service recovery, the service would restart itself and all would be good.

The last contact I had with sage support was that they wanted a logfile with debug logging where I could reproduce the problem. I'll see if I can still reproduce this and get the log later tonight or tomorrow.
