Support for lossless image formats
I am using HD MEdia extender with SageTV 6.3.5. I can see all my Jpeg pictures without no issues, but it haven't imported any of my folders that contains pictures in lossless formats. Historically (before RAW) the two most popular formats were PCD (Kodak Photo CD) and TIFF. My all archive is stored in these two formats and I would love to see in on my TV. Is SageTV supporting any lossless picture formats?
If not is it possible to somehow add this feature? PCD contains each picture in multiple resolutions so I would love SageTV to pick the resolution than matches most closely my TV. TIFF can contains multiple pages in one file as well which can be different pictures (e.g. different pages of one fax/document, or different resolutions of one pictures) so I think it would be necessary to setup if to display individual pages or pick the one with a resolution that best matches the TV/display. Thank you |

Chapter 4 of the SageTV PDF manual lists the supported media formats.

Is this something Sage is interesting in improving (adding more formats) or is this something which can be done on my own, e.g. within SageMC?
There is a wonderful tool (open source, free for any use, even commercial) ImageMagick which also has Java interface (JMagic). It works on all platforms supported by Sage. It supports pretty much any image format and conversions between them. From the top of my head since it has been a while since I used it last in my code, Among others it supports function "identify" when you can ask it to identify file as an image and convert to convert from one format to another. This feature can be solved by using ImageMagick/JMagic when searching the import directory for images, use identify to identify each file so that Sage doesn't have to have hardcoded list of supported formats/extensions and then for the files which are not displayable directly (on screen or extender) use the convert function to convert it to the supported format in cache and display it. |
