New Hava Device=analog HD capture at last?

Hava just announced its new media streamer that captures and streams HD video. The other Hava devices have bda drivers that enable them to operate as virtual tuners. Could this be the along awaited solution for easy HD tuning?

I'm a little unclear, did you find something that specifies the inbound ports it supports? Sure it does component?

Also, what's the BDA driver? The article mentions timeshifting PVR functions in the PC client software but I'm guessing that's locked down so you can't use the PVR'ed videos off the client PC. Is there another method someone's figured out to pull video from the older Hava's?

As for analog HD holes, check out this thread:

The existing Hava Wireless devices include component input. They'll capture 1080i sources, but they'll only be digitized/compressed at 480p. They also include a "virtual tuner" driver that enables them to function as virtual tuners for MCE. Take a look at the "connections" and "distinguishing features" section of this review.

Update: Here's a press release for the new device. It apparently includes the same virtual tuner functionality.

It looks to me like the HAVA will handle up to 1080i at 18-20Mb over the network. What would it take to have support for this, or the old HAVA in Sage? I'm guessing demand wasn't high enough before, but now, this could be like a HDHomerun, but for Component Settop Boxes. I think this is a better approach than that of the Blackmagic capture card, as that captures uncompressed data.

Being a hardware engineer, I don't have the know how to get something like this to work, but the fact that the hardware is reasonably priced ($200 a tuner), this could be a great way to bring in either DishHD, DirecTV HD, or even Cable HD through the settop box and IR flasher.

You mean like this?

Huh. I knew that some people had gotten it working (it's a BDA driver so STV should at least detect it) but I had thought people were having trouble with timeshifting, channel changing, etc.
