R5000, SageTV, and WHS - Do you need a standalone computer?
Is it possible to run an R5000 box and SageTV solely on WHS? I know I can have the SageTV add-in, but can the R5000 be plugged into one of the USB ports?

I need to have the answer to this too before making/buying a server. Does anyone know?

WHS is a stand alone computer.

Sorry if stand along computer wasn't specific enough here. The WHS runs Server 2003 software. Can you plug in an install the software for the R5000 on it?

I don't have an R5000, but my understanding is that the software is just making the R5000 into a network encoder in which case it should work just fine on WHS. It is a full featured version of Sage after all.

I don't have WHS, but it would be distinctly odd if you couldn't install hardware and drivers on it. It's a full-featured version of Windows, after all.

It's my understanding that it doesn't have drivers for server 2003.

Have you tried asking Nextcom support if their software runs on WHS? They would know if anybody would.

Well here is there answer and it doesn't look good:
"No it cannot. You have to have an XP/2K/Vista box to run the DVR software. The stream can then be pushed out to any storage medium." But I still have to wonder if there is some way to install the software/drivers... |

seems I've seen others on the boards post they have been successfull running R5000 capture on WHS. I was actually thinking of doing this myself to consolidate some boxes. It would be good if someone who has this running can verify they aren't seeing issues.
