no little red button around here on MOT cable boxes (at least the ones i know)

my ziova network media players don't have pass through either....i'm hoping they get around to it sometime after the new cs615 units come out

For the Mit 62XX boxes, turn the cable box off. Then press the menu button. Go down to 4:3 Override and change it to 480i or 480p. While this is "technically" not pass-through (720p is still put out at 1080i for me) it is better than everything coming out as 1080i.

hi wayne,

thanks.....i have it set up that way already, so if the hdprv is smart enough to change recording rate, at least the SD recordings will have sane file sizes.
i guess another solution, if you need or have 2 STBs, is to set one for 1080i and the other to 720p, and have non-overlapping channel lineups for the 1080i and 720p channels

i have 2 HDHR boxes right now on cable, but will move at least 2 of those tuners to OTA QAM.......i have one STB right now and will probably go with a single STB/hdpvr for a while, then decide later if i need a 2nd STB

Rakesh from Snapstream Media said they (Snapstream) expected a test unit in a few weeks.

And a guy on the Snapstream Forums is saying he received an e-mail from Hauppauge saying they expected a March release. SS Forums Post

So I'm wondering, is there a way to tunnel the USB connection over ethernet (LAN)? Am I the only one that would like to see this thing have an ethernet port for network streaming to a server located elsewhere?

Something like that would be great, no need to keep moving satellite box's and cables all around the house.

The same goes for my sat box output, which is composite. If that could be streamed over ethernet I could get my cabling tidy once and for all.

Bear in mind you need a two-way connection, since you have to be able to change channels on the STB. Just remoting the capture device won't accomplish that; you'll have to remote an IR blaster as well.

any reason we coudln't use firewire to change channels? I've been bitten by the 5c bug, so it still changes channels, but sage can't do anything with it.

The IOGear unit linked is 2-way, at least it appears to be. Their site shows hooking a MP3 player of some sort to it, which would require 2-way control. Also, the IR would be done over the USB also, as the device itself (Hauppauge's and presumably Sage's) has an IR blaster built in. The only issue I see with it is that its 1.0/1.1 only, and not 2.0. Not sure if it can pass enough bits for this new capture device.

FWIW their press release stated that the device will include an IR blaster on it.

Nope, you're not the only one. I think that would be great.
