damned 9500pro, damed stuttering...damn it all!!!!
ok - i've had my stuttering with all mpeg related apps and fixed that by disabling acpi shared irq's for usb controllers that coincided with my agp port, got every dvd program working perfectly with dxva enabled and playback loooking sweet....all except sage that is...
it turns out that with my 9500 pro and sage tv dxva just is not going to happen. stuck my radeon 7000 back in the pc last night and voila no more audio stutters in sage and i can enable any codec i have on my system AND use dxva with that codec. with the 9500 pro in my pc and dxva mode selected it would always crap out and give me an mpeg2 error and failed to find the video renderer message or failed to connect to video renderer. i could use the hauppauge/intervideo codec with (registry hacked) dxva enabled (mode c) with bob, weave or bob and weave selected which would provide a pretty picture but with the audio stutter - turn off the dxva and no stutter anymore but now the picture gets a tad jerky and generally looks like crap compared to dxva enabled pic. so 2 questions: 1. since this is a problem which is entirely limited to sageTV does it sound like something that can be fixed via software (i really don't understand why if fails to find or engage with video renderer when dxva modes are selected) ![]() 2. the maybe more simple fix - anyone wanna buy a 9500 pro and recommend something else (other than my 7000) that i can throw in there? ![]() this is really depressing actually because the picture was absolutely fantastic with the 9500 pro for both dvd's and sage and while the 7000 is fine now for sage playback it doesn't work very well for scaling dvd's at 1920x540p or 1080i as i get tearing ![]() any ideas would be greatly appreciated at this point. nick. |

Once you enable DXVA in the registry for that codec you don't have to do anything else in Sage. Have you tried leaving everything set to Default? Same results between VMR and Overlay?

when i enable dxva for powerdvd, as an example, in the powerdvd software itself all works fine for dvd playback in powerdvd. i leave that setting enabled quit powerdvd and load into sage and select:
video decoder: cyberlink mode: default deinterlace: default sleep/wake and the cyberlink codec will run audio and video but it's jerky and looks like crap especially the tickers. sage cpu usage will be 32 to 35% now do the same thing - but - video decoder: cyberlink mode: C (or D even) deinterlace: default sleep/wake and (with the radeon 7000) the cyberlink codec will run audio and video look very sharp will well defined tickers. sage cpu usage will be 9 to 16% the same applies to the hauppauge/intervideo hacked decoders too. if i don't select a mode (C or D) then the cpu use is generally 20% higher and also selecting deinterlace method works great with those decoders and the radeon 7000. so basically, for me, dxva - even when selected in the registry - isn't doing jack until i select either mode C or D for any codec which as i said works fine for the 7000 but no dice with the 9500 pro. ![]() i'd be happy with the 7000 if i didn't get tearing at high res. |

I've got a 9500 (Sapphire non-pro 64Mb) running with Sonic decoders DXVA everything as default and it works just fine, CPU ~20% on my 2.4G P4.

i've never been able to get the sonic decoders to work in sage in any manor but then again i've only ever tried to use the sonic decoders as a trial product so i'm assuming that they can't be grabbed by another program for playback?
i'm just really miffed right now - hate to lose, especially to a computer!!!! ![]() in the mean time my kitchen counter top is capable of some mean refresh rates ![]() |

I do run DXVA with Intervideo and Sonic with a Radeon 9600 (a little different) and a Radeon 9000. Both run fine when everything is set to default. If I change any of the settings I generally get bad results or an MPEG2 errors.
I have mixed luck with the Cyberlink decoders. One machine it runs fine with Sage. Another is is jumpy as heck. In the end I don't run DXVA in production since it reduces PQ too much (Sonic not as bad) but the CPU usage is nice. |

It seems like I get less interlace artifacts when using DXVA on my 9500+Sonic. All I know for sure is that I'm going to look hard at a GeforceFX 5700 and FWMM (nVDVD 3) when it comes out, it really sounds like it should be a step up in terms of Deinterlacing.

man i wish i could say the same. my pic quality is awesome with dxva enabled but looks like junk as soon as i turn it off or set to default mode rather than C or D mode. the best example is still any news ticker. C or D mode on results in perfect scrolling text. default results in blury jump text and motion blur in fast moving scenes. |

Yeah, all you are having issues with is deinterlacing. That is a harder issue to deal with. PQ I refer to is basically frame by frame quality. Hardware deinterlacing is not bad but I can't stand the PQ degradation I get. Using Elecard and DScaler to deinterlace seems to give me the best of both worlds.

elecard and dscaler always provided me with great results picture wise but i could never stop the audio from drifting no matter what setting(s) i used.
it would always start out rock solid then eventually lose sync after about 20-30 minutes plus elecards affinity to set itself to default for everything is kinda annoying too. i guess as far as my problems go it wasn't so much that the 9500 pro wasn't compatible but more that i had unusable audio when using the 9500 and dxva. i was pretty content with the 9500 pro's image with hauppauge/intervideo codec with dxva enabled but with this enabled i would get audio drops every three to five seconds and before disabling the usb port i would also experience the same audio drops within all my dvd playback software when dxva was enabled, too. maybe the 9500 may work if i buy a separate audio card rather than using onboard spdif out but i'm not sure i want to spend the money right now just to see - what's CC return policy like on opened items? ![]() |

Yes, I just upgraded my P3 1000 to an XP 2500 to handle the audio sync problems. DScaler does take a big CPU.

i have a p4 1.6 - i'll eventually stick a 2.4 or so in there when they are about 25 bucks a piece ~3 months from now i guess

You may want to consider borrowing someone's sound card. I think I just recently saw in a post someone else was having audio sync issues so they disabled on board and thru in a Sound Blaster Audigy. No more audio sync issues. May be worth it.
