Backup Sage for complete windows/sage install
I am going to format and reinstall windows and I want to know if there is a way to backup ALL my existing settings for SageTV (lineups, preferences, favorite show settings, etc.) so when I reinstall SageTV, I dont have to go through a complete setup again.
Between unregistering .ax filters and playing with Merits, my system basically will only run sageTV and nothing else. As soon as I start playback, if I try to do anything else, my system doesnt respond. if I move my mouse, it scrolls super slow. When I look at the resource monitor, my CPU usuage is low and the system is mostly idle. I am thinking there is a conflict somewhere, but I dont want to spend hours searching for it when I can just do a reinstall. It's a dual core AMD Athalon 64 w/ 1GM of memory...MORE than enough power to multitask SageTV and other things...but right now, as soon as playback starts, the system stops responding. I installed iTunes today and as soon as I started music playback, the system doesnt respond to keyboard or mouse command...only the HVR-1600 remote and thats ONLY if iTunes is the active application in front. |

Check the FAQs, good info there.
Basically you need to keep only the wiz.bin file, everything else can be installed from scratch and then reconfigured, or any desired customizations reinstalled. I think you can also back up the entire \program files\sagetv directory, then restore it after windows is freshly installed, then re-run the SageTV installer for the same version as what was previously installed. I have done this more than once, though it has been awhile and I don't remember if I had any issues doing it. I don't think I did. Don't forget to install the latest Java first. But for certain you can retain only the wiz.bin, I always do that as part of trying a new SageTV version. I uninstall SageTV, then delete \program files\sagetv directory, and clean the registry as best I can. Then I install a new version of SageTV, make sure it is not running, and replace the new wiz.bin with my old one. Then bring SageTV up and import any customizations, etc. Hope that helps.
