List of issues Sage 6.3.6 with HD extender
Dear friends,
I am new to Sage and really working hard these days to like it. I use WinXP with SageTV 6.3.6 installed and the HD Media Extender in my living room. Should this work well, this would be my perfect setup. I have multiples issues and would like you to help it out. I am including links to Standard files for Video codecs and Containerrs. These files are used in order to get the DivX or DivX Ultra certification. They go beyond Divx and offer way to test also x264, MKV, AAC etc Up to know here is what work for me and did not work: Samples files available through these links. These files are free to share and duplicate. My priority would be .mkv with AAC 5.1 channel in at least two audio channel. This does not work for me, either on the server or the Extender. No multiple audio tracks work on the extenders. Don't know why this isn't working for you. I've had 5.1ch AAC that plays fine in PCM stereo to my receiver. I'm using the optical out on my HD Extender.
If I were you I'd contact support. This is a user forum not a direct support forum. Edit: Why do you want 5.1ch AAC when it's going to be converted to stereo? Last edited by Taddeusz; 01-23-2008 at 09:41 AM. Reason: question |

Now I'm actually confused about your extensive testing... let my just go into detail on my setup and I'll explain what I've done and tell you that it IS working.
I have been converting some of my movies to MKV container using AutoMKV to anamorphic 720x480 H.264 video using the original AC3 or DTS audio. SageTV does not currently support MKV chapters or subtitles. I have been informed by support that it is planned for a future release. My HD Extender is hooked into my receiver by the optical SPDIF. Everything I've thrown at it either gets converted to stereo PCM (MP3, AAC, AAC 5.1, etc) or is passed through to my receiver (AC3 & DTS). Everything plays fine for me. Maybe if you can give a better description of how you have your extender connected. |

When I say that multiple audio does not work, I mean that I can't switch from Audio 1 to Audio 2 from my Extender while playing the file.
Do you claim that this work for you?

When you say Audio1 and Audio2 what formats do you mean because your testing chart is really confusing to look at.

When creating a .mkv file using software like AutoMKV, you have to option to encode more than one audio track (french and english) with the video. AVI, MP4, MKV containers supports that.
When reading back with a player, some will read the #1 only audio track while others support switching from an audio track to another. I am encoding my .mkv with french and english audio track. In SAGE TV I can switch from audio track #1 to audio track #2. In the HD extender I can't. I hav read that this is supported. If you download the CONTAINER.ZIP file, you could test if you can switch audio track with your installation. The file name in the Container.zip file is the one that show in the first column of my test. Thanks
