Stop MCE remote controlling MCE?
Anyone know if it is possible to stop the MCE remote control bringing up Media Center when pressing the guide button etc, *without* fully disabling Media Center (on Vista)?
(I want Media Center to run in the background recording while I transition to SageTV) Thanks! T |

Stopping the Media Centre services will probably stop media centre from working. But I'm not sure.

ehtray is the process that handles that. It did on XP-not sure on Vista. I don't think it's a service. If you're going to trial the Sage server on that PC you'll need to disable VMC. Only 1 application can access the tuner cards at a time. An app (VMC or SageTV, among others) will grab and keep the tuners because it never knows for sure when it will access them. Of course if you have more than 1 tuner card you could configure one for each app.

What version of Vista ? Because in "Ultimate" you can set a policy key to disable it, but the other version like Home, you will have to find the Registry key that will disabe it.

I set the group policy and disabled all the services that start up plus anything in the ehome directory in msconfig, but some of the buttons on my remote still try to fire up MCE, specifically the Recorded TV button. Any ideas on another are that I should check to make sure its all disabled?
