Initial Setup

So I purchased SageTv v6.3 along with the Media MVP license. I also purchased a Hauppauge Media MVP, not from Sagetv but from other vendor, hope that is ok. I also bought the WinTV PVR 500 MCE. I just realized that the 500MCE pci card is too big to fit in my media server. So here are my questions...

1: Where do I put the license key I got for the MVP client? On my sage tv server or the MVP client?
2: Can I use SageTV media server to server DVD's pics and audio for now? till I get another pc that the 500MCE can fit in?

I went through the sagetv setup wizard and skipped the source setup. But seems like the server is not running when I goto the MVP.

Do I have to install something from the MVP cd on the sagetv server?

There are directions for the MVP in the PDF manual, which you can downlaod or is found in your SageTV install dir. See Appendix M, starting on p. 253. All of those questions are answered there.

You should be able to use the media center/imported media features -- again, see that Appendix about how to have the MVP connect to the SageTV server.

Thank you Opus, I got that to work no problem. Watching some youtube videos for demo, looks good so far.

Now, do I rip my own DVD's and put them in a folder or does sagetv have any dvd ripping capability?

Also do I need to install any divc or xvid codecs on the sagetv server for streaming divx/xvid stuff?

Also how does the sagetv get the dvd covers etc?

thanks,

I found out answers to my own questiosn...

Now, do I rip my own DVD's and put them in a folder or does sagetv have any dvd ripping capability?

Rip manually then put them in import media folder

Also do I need to install any divx or xvid codecs on the sagetv server for streaming divx/xvid stuff?

No need for any codec, as the MVP supports MP4

Also how does the sagetv get the dvd covers etc?

download the front cover image form www.imdb.com and put it in the dvd folder and rename the file to folder.jpg

You can import data from within Sage if you use the IMDB import STVi.

And the MetaData import STVi.

OK, last question.

I searched the forum and googled this, but cannot get confirmed latest informaiton. I have two Verizon FIOS Motorolla QIP2500-3 Set Top Boxes. I have Win PVR 500 MCE and I would like to have the ability to record 2 channels at the same time if needed and also the ability for MediaMVP users change channels on live tv. Now question is, my 500MCE does not come with any IR cables or serial cables. How do I go about changing channels on both my QIP2500-3 using some kinda cabling? Mind you verizon changed their channels from 3 digits to 4 digits now. The MultiDCTTunerDLL is extremely outdated not sure if it still works with the 4 digits and 2 tuners. Anyone else out there with some what similar setup? what are you using? also what cables would I need, the serial cables I am talking about. thanks in advance
