Moved hard drive & can't find recordings
I was running SageTV on an XP platform and recording to a dedicated disk. I installed the WHS version of Sage on my new WHS platform and also installed the disk from the XP box with all the recorded video.
During setup on the new platform, I specified the record directory to point to the newly installed disk but Sage doesn't see any recorded videos. I'm guessing that there is a catalog/data base on the old XP machine that lists everything on the drive. I can see all the video files on the E: disk but Sage thinks it's empty. It seems like Sage doesn't read the disk directly, but rather keeps it's own catalog. Can someone point me to a thread which discusses this or tell me how to restore the recordings? Thanks, Jeff |

wiz.bin is the database file that would have the info for your recordings.
Somewhere in this FAQ is info about moving to a new PC. You may be able to simple exit SageTV on the new system, copy in the old wiz.bin from the other PC, then restart SageTV. - Andy

1. Stopped sage service on WHS machine. 2. Copied wiz.bin from old XP to Sage directory on WHS. Didn't bother making backup of wiz.bin from WHS since it was a new installation and would not contain useful data. 3. Relabeled drive to the same letter it had in the XP machine. In WHS, used admin tools->computer management->storage management. Then changed the label from E to G, which is how the drive was know to the old Sage installation. Ignored warnings from the system since the drive contained only data and no applications or executables were on the disk. 4. Restarted Sage service. 5. Started Sage Client on WHS machine. Didn't see the files at first, so I restarted the server. 6. Upon restart, I saw all the old Sage Recordings from all client set-top boxes (MVP located at TVs). The whole process took about five minutes, even for a noob. Now I that I've got Sage running on a more capable platform, I'll try my hand at commercial skipping tools. Thanks again for pointing me to the FAQ, Jeff |
