Asus eee pc with a Windows XP server
Has anyone tried this combo - i.e., I would like to run the Linux version of Placeshifter on the Asus eee pc, accessing an XP SageTV server.
Is it simple - anyone had a go at it yet, or at least a similar combination? thanks |

The Placeshifter essentially does run from the Server, but you still need to run the Placeshifter software locally which then connects to the server.
I just got an Eee PC last night and put Windows on it. The Placeshifter works perfectly! |

Did you try that - i.e. the Linux Placeshifter software accessing the Windows server software? |

I did try installing the Linux Placeshifter on the Eee but it failed and I don't know enough about Linux yet to figure it out.
I have installed the Linux Placeshifter on Kubuntu and it connects fine to my WinXP Sage installation so it should work on the Eee as well. |

I have done just this, although the server is a Vista machine (should make no difference), and Placeshifter is running on my EEE. The only problem I can't seem to resolve is a screen flicker that appears only when a menu overlay and video are present at the same time, but goes away when the overlay goes out of view (video playback works fine). It does take a while to work out all the dependencies, but in the end it works great both over my LAN and over the internet. I'm pretty impressed with Xandros for it's quick boot time and stability, but the user-friendliness of Windows I do miss.

Yeah I just wanted it to work without having to fart around with Xandros especially since I'm not that knowledgable with Linux yet so blew it out and put Windows on.
