Correcting a resolution problem?

Weird thing last night...used SageTV to record Knight Rider on the HD version of my local NBC affiliate, however, when displaying it after recording, it compressed the HD video to put it into a standard sized box on screen, like it squeezed the 16x9 video into a 4x3 proportion. It had black boxes on the sides, and the image looked stretched vertically. I closed down SageTV, and tried to open the file in WinDVD 6...it was fine. It was the proper resolution, with the proper 16x9 proportions, basically, it looked like what I expected the SageTV playback to look like. I have recorded many HD programs using SageTV, and have never had a problem with the recording being played back at the wrong aspect ratio before. What would cause SageTV to record at the correct aspect ratio, (which it must have, since WinDVD played the MPG file back properly) but then play back that recording at the wrong aspect ratio? This is the first time I have ever encountered the problem with SageTV, 99% of the time, it plays back the HD stuff flawlessly.
