STV Import: Recipe Viewer for SageMC
This is a quick and simple recipe viewer import for SageMC that I created to view recipes in my kitchen with my MVP. It allows for simple searching and printing.
Download it here.

Cool this is a neat idea. I bet my dad would enjoy this. Any chance you've got some favorite recipes to include
I'll probably be installing this once I'm done playing with EP's video tools.

Reading the install instructions:
" Import the Recipes_SageMC.xml file (in the STVs directory) from the Settings screen (Import STVi). Add a new menu item in your main menu to the Internal Screen with the name of "Recipe Browser". Select the new menu item, and then go into Options. Navigate to and select the home directory containing your recipe files (or sub-directories with recipe files)." Does this mean that I can organize recipes into a directory structure, but that I need to add a different menu item for each directory? I'm not terribly experienced with adding menus items.

You just need to add one menu item to your main menu that points to the Recipe Browser screen (in your main menu press Options, select "Main Menu Options", select "New... | New Internal Screen", select "Recipe Browser", save the menu file). Then, once you go into the Recipe Browser you select a "home" directory that contains all your recipes (flat list of files and/or subdirectories) that you can navigate within the Recipe Browser screen.

Where are you getting your recipes? The Meelmaster format puts a bunch of recipes into a single text file. Any way your plugin can work with that format? Any recommendations?
This doesn't seem to be working with the latest SageMC 16x9 6.3.7a. I dropped a text file into the recipe directory. I also defined the recipe directory in options. Nothing shows and the seacrh doesn't find it either. I copied 1 recipe out of a Meelmaster text file. This is on a PC client. Gerry

I have a copy of Mastercook which lets you export recipes into single text files. I did a search for a Meal-Master utility to split up a big file into multiple recipe files but didn't find anything yet.

I haven't tried this plugin yet, but it sounds like (not sure) the plugin uses mastercook format? If so, you can covert from mealmaster to mastercook using the Mastercook Buster program. There's also several recipe files on that page and another program that converts the opposite way. Don't know if this will work but thought I'd mention it. |

The import uses text files of any format. It just expects one recipe in each file whereas the MealMaster files that you can download seem to contain many recipes in the same file. I did find the "Buster" programs in my search and it looks like the MealMaster one might split one file into many but not with meaningful file naming.

Any chance of getting this plugin for Sage (not SageMC)?
Thanks, Mike |

I am curious what kind of kitchen setups that you all use to access sage or other recipe solutions? I have an open floor plan where the kitchen looks into the great room and I can see the 60" from there, but would rather set something up that will not interrupt the tv use to see the recipes. I am the main cook in my house (computers is main hobby, cooking is second) so I have the knowledge AND desire to implement a solution =) I had considered a small touchscreen as the most elegant solution, but that is probably more than I am willing to spend on this kind of application. I am considering getting a laptop in the near future and could just use that, but that would not be my preferred answer, especially when the decision to purchase a laptop has not been finalized yet.
So maybe just a small lcd screen, the mvp and a remote. But implementing a compact keyboard would be more convenient for doing a search. I am just looking for some jump off points. Thanks for any input. Until then, I will load this recipe viewer and use the family room tv to view as needed. Really tired of keeping track of all the loose paper print outs I have laying around everywhere!

What happens when you press the Options button on your remote? You can add the folder manually to the 'SageClient.properties' file as a last resort ('Recipes_SageMC.xml' is just the file that is used once to import the UI into SageMC).

I currently have the MVP with a 17" LCD. This works pretty well. The only disadvantage is that the resolution of the MVP is so low that I need to make the font size of the recipe text pretty big for it to be readable from a distance. This means more scrolling to see the entire recipe.

Yes. It is not as convenient as a real keyboard but you do have the onscreen keyboard to do text entry. You also don't necessarily have to enter full words to perform a search. For example, you could enter "chic" to search for all recipes with "chicken" in the title.
