I don't think the extenders have mouse input functions, which you'd need for a touchscreen. The HD extender has USB ports, but I don't know if they would work.

I run my touchscreen off of my server, which is in the basement. The screen is mounted in a kitchen wall just above with long USB and VGA cables.

I don't know anyone that makes an under cabinet mounted touchscreen. You'll probably need to fashion some sort of hinge.

My blog post on the touchscreen interface will be up Monday morning. I love the concept of the touchscreen (like samgreco has). Just wish I had some spare cash to set it up in my house right now.

My touchscreen set up is identical to samgreco's...touchscreen in kitchen attached via long cables to server in basement. I believe I am still using standard RS-232 for the mouse signals but I could be on USB just don't remember what the current screen supports. My original was definitely RS-232. Also using VGA for the vid signal. Had issues with VGA quality originally but upgraded to a good-quality monoprice 25 footer and video is clean.

Can anyone recommend a few different 10.4" LCD touchscreens meant mounting under kitchen (top cabinets)? I'll probably just put a mini-pc right above in the cabinet with wifi. I'm only going to use it for SageTV, Skype, and Yellowpages.com.

Edit: I found the one below, but I dont know how good the picture quality is and if it has a mount to hang from the bottom of kitchen cabinets. I'd prefer a very narrow border; and something relatively easy to mount (like a couple of wood screws).

OK, finally posted the overview and video for the SageMC Touchscreen Interface. Hope it came out okay - if there is anything I have wrong in there let me know.

Hey, pretty slick! I've never actually seen Sage in action on a touchscreen. I might have to look into getting one now...

Aloha,
Mike

Glad to do it! Nice to show off Mike's work

BTW, it's working great now. Haven't found any issues.

Looks like the new version of SageMC killed the touchscreen support during playback. I still can access the touchscreen toolbar in the regular sage screens, but when you are playing back a show in full screen, the menu won't pop up...only the normal SageMC with play/pause and time bar show up.

Help!

Hi jmv,

Did you download the compatibility update (v1.3) of the touchscreen plugin?

Oh yeah, BTW...

Announcement: The touchscreen controls import has been updated for compatibility with SageMC v6.3.8

Aloha,
Mike

Oh wow - I wonder what the touch interface would be like on something like this:
http://source.ncix.com/lp1/eeetop/ca/
This is the ASUS EEE Top Touchscreen All-In-One PC - this thing with SageTV Client might just be a killer machinefor anywhere in the house!?
Right now I am using an LG Wireless 15" LCD TV driven by a SageTV HD Theatre but this computer would have saved me over $1000.00 and could have performed more functions than the TV.
Very tempting ....

Those look nice and there was some discussion about them here. The only problem is that they may not have the power to do HD but SD should be fine. The good thing is that they are reasonably priced compared to touchscreen monitors that can cost close to $500 without a PC - I bought one several years ago for my daughter to use as she has a disability and has problems using a mouse.

Anyone having issues with the latest SageMC/SageTV app and the touchscreen interface? I am consistently loosing touchscreen responsiveness (mouse freezes, doesn't take input or jumps to strange locations). This started happening after I recently upgraded all my Sage things to the latest versions (e.g. SageTV 6.6.2; SageMC 6.3.8a). The touchscreen sits on Server 2008 running the SageTV service and SageTV interface. I am thinking it is a SageMC problem because the mouse issues are worst when I try to access the touchscreen inport during full screen media playback...

thanks,
mv

Now that you mention it - this seemed to stop working on my SageMC client PC about a week ago - around the same time I upgraded to the latest version of Sage and SageMC.

I'll take a look at it when I get the chance, but it will probably be a while. I've got a lot going on right now.

Aloha,
Mike

Current status of this import?

Does anyone know if this touchscreen import works with SageTV 6.6?

I've been trying to convert my configuration to run with a new touchscreen I just got, but I can't seem to get this working.

The STV import functionality only seems to look for .STVI files rather than .XML files, so I manually imported the .XML file into the studio (ctrl-shift-F12, File->Import). The touchscreen code seems to load into the tree display okay, but I can't get the touchscreen controls to appear.

You may want to give the new beta for Sage TV 7 a run for its money. They are trying to incorporate a touchscreen compatible interface with the new menuing systems. Make a backup of your current install somewhere and just upgrade over the existing install. If you don't like it uninstall 7 and reinstall 6 and then copy your backup over it. It's not the same as SageMC but may be worth it.

Does the slimplayer import work with v7 beta? This is my must-have import that also seemed to take the most amount of time to get working just right (I'm sure much of it was learning about squeezebox configuration, but plenty of time configuring menus and STV to get it just right as well)

Thanks for the suggestion - assuming slimplayer works as well as the general look/feel of the interface I'll check it out.
