HDHOMERUN OTA no signal.
Hi,
I have been at this for several days now. Brand New Dell Inspiron 531 (AMD 64x2 4400+ 2GB Ram) 1 HDHOMERUN (OTA) Sage 6.0 (trial upgrade from 5.4 - I have 10 days left) I have read the installation at the SiliconDust and the many posts here about the no signal issue in Sage. I can see the stations in the HDHomerun setup and can view the, in VLC. I go into SAGE, add the source, select he OTA option for the antenna, select Los Angeles Digital Broadcast, and scan for the channels. It finds all the stations, but only 2 stations are enabled and working. These two stations (8-1 (8-8-1) and 8-2 (8-8-2)) have the x-x-x numbers after them. Here is where the problem is. HDHomerun doesn't show anything in the Remap column for OTA, so I don't know what to set the other stations to for the physical channel or I would set them manually. I have tried shutting down SAGE and reinstalling the BDA drivers and still no success. Since the two stations are working and they have the x-x-x numbers after them, then it would seem if I know the other x-x-x numbers for the other stations, I could set them manually and they should work. Am I off on thinking that? Ignore the System and Software in my signature, those are old and I will update them soon!!

I think you should set them manually. A friend of mine in the LA area just set up a HDHR OTA without problems. I think he had already set the physical channel numbers up manually for use with his HVR950.

Thanks for the reply, but that's just the thing. I don't know what the physical channel numbers are. For instance KABCDT (7.1) is 53 in the HDHomerun. Sage sees it as 53 as well, but there is still no signal. Can you ask your buddy what he mapped them as and post them here? I would appreciate it.
This signature is now updated...!

Go into the HDHR channel editor. The first column is Tune, those are the numbers to use. The information he sent me at the time shows KWHYDT on CH42-3, so the physical channel in Sage should be 42-3
However, he did not do a scan and I think it causes problems between the 2 number format and the 3 number format. I use QAM and use the 2 number format, other people also use QAM but have the 3 number format. I don't if you can mix the 2 or 3 number format. You should use some trial and error on one station until you get it right. You can probably get a quicker response on the SiliconDust forums.

Here is the reply I got from my friend asking him to verify the information I gave you:
some of them match and some don't like kfrdt in sage shows logical channel 46-1 and in brackets the physical channel shows [29-46-1] in brackets. the line up in the hdhr channel editor shows sh29-3 ch31-3 ktladt appears in the hdhr lineup but in sage channel setup it shows : 5-1-ktla-dt-[31-5-1] upon closer inspection it looks like they are all remapped, by the scan, because i didn't set them up that way on sage cbs is: 2-1-kcbsdt - [62-2-1] and on hdhr lineup ch60-1 Edit: I just noticed in your original post you say that only 2 channels are enabled. You should enable the channels you want Sage to see?

The scan only recognizes 2 channels. The other channels are listed but do not have a signal or a physical channel in brackets. I believe because the physical channel and the logical channel are the same so it doesn't show the bracketed numbers. For example, 31 KTLADT, if I manually put in 31 as the physical number, it doesn't show the physical number in brackets as it's the same as the logical number. I tried to change the physical number to 31-5-1, but I still get no signal in Sage (even though it's like 87% in HDHR)
You helped out a bit by giving me the KTLA physical channel of 31-5-1 I will try to see if I can get it to work, but it doesn't look good at the moment. Any other suggestions would be great!

BTW.
My Vista machine also has Media Center. It picks up all the channels no problem. I don't know why this is so hard in Sage! I am willing to work at this though as I don't like Windows Media Center interface.

Well, I tried to map the channels myself using the two physical channels u gave and no luck. I don't know where to go from here. I posted in the SiliconDust forum as well.
I need to get this working, If anyone had the HDHR working with SAGE OTA on Vista, please lend your suggestions as to how to get SAGE to get a signal on the HDHR OTA. (As I said, I get two channels that work and the others have no signal in Sage, but do in HDHR.) Thanks!

Here is the most recent info I received about the scan:
the scan would not work unless i went into the edit lineup on the hdhr setup and viewed one of the channels with the view option that bings up the vlc program before doing the scan in sage

I appreciate your assistance on this.
I am able to view all the channels in HDHR Setup through VLC, but still no signal in SAGE. Wierd thing is Vista MCE picks them all up fine. I even stopped the MCE services thinking maybe they had a hold of the channel signals (i am reaching here.) and then scan in Sage, but that didn't work either. I am going to to uninstall SAGE and install the 5.4 (i have a license for 5.4, I have not paid for the upgrade to 6.0) and see if that works. If it does then I will try the upgrade to 6.0. Maybe I need to reinstall SAGE after the HDHR upgrade (someone else suggested that). I will let you know what happens. THX

If you also have MCE on that PC you need to stop all the MCE services before you even start Sage up. With either program running they will hold on to the tuners. I believe if you check the SiliconDust website you need at least Sage version 6.2.6 or newer.

I have SAGE 6.3.5.159 (I should have mentioned the full ver. number).
I updated to hdhomerun_windows_20080226beta1 as it states it fixes the chennel scaning issue, but now the HDHR isn't recognized in SAGE AT ALL now. There are a few others that are experiencing the same issue over at the Silicon Dust forum. I will keep at it and post any updates to this post.
