I'm a ReplayTV veteran, so I changed to 30-second skip as soon as I learned how. I agree that the Tivo folks should get their own fast-forward/rewind feature, but please leave us Replay types with our time-skips!

I too was a bit dissapointed that V2 didnt have the option for TIVO-like ffw and rew. Luckily Sage2 has the same internal windows commands as the old version, so i can still use my girder-ized ffw and rew. works like a charm.

just wanted to offer up again that i have a gml that does give sage old and new tivo-like ffw and rew. located in this thread:

http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&threadid=2511

hopefully i wont need to use it too much longer, but it is a nice feature if your not happy with pressing skip a bizillion times.

My continued vote for a more functional ffw and rewind...

I don't know if this applies to the beta. In version 1.4, go into the commands and use "Link Keystroke to Sage Command", when it asks for keystroke just press the desired remote button. The Hauppauge remote is just simulation keystrokes.

Well, I have a Replay too, and while the 30 sec skip is good, what I really want is commercial skip. :-) Seriously, I have a friend whose 7 yr old just discovered commercials - he's never seen any when watching TV so far, and was confused when he saw one for the first time at a friend's house. No commercial peddling to kids in cartoons - every parent's dream!

Thanks,
Mike

With the default Hauppauge remote mappings you can just use the time scroll feature to jump ahead two and a half minutes (the length of most commercial breaks). Press the stop button, then the skip forward button, then the stop button again. Sometimes I have to use the regular skip forward button a time or two to get to the start of the next program segment.

A smooth, multi-speed, FF and RW. I believe the speeds are 2x, 10x, and 30x.

So basically the longer you hold it down the faster it goes?

Hit it once for 3x, twice for 30x and three times for 60x. You can zip through 4 minutes of commercials in 4 seconds, and as soon as you see the show start again, hit play and it typically backs up to within 1-2 seconds of the end of the commercial.

I am so spoiled I watch some sports on 3x ff (like boxing or NASCAR) until something interesting happens. If it's a really boring match or race, I use 30x but it's tough to catch a quick knockdown. I also use the 30sec skip hack on Tivo, but usually only for football - it's perfect for that.

The great thing abvout the Tivo FFW/REW is that you don't have to hold it down while it REW or FFW. Press it to go forward, press again to go faster, and you can even press it again to go real fast and then let the button go. When you are ready to continue watching the show at regular speed, just hit play again.

This sounds fantastic!! It seems very similar to what I had when I used the Creative DVCR and really miss that feature.

PLEASE, please add this feature (OK, so now I am begging) so that us folks who want to use it can. If you don't like it, then don't use it, but at least we will have the option.

Thanks,

I would also like the Tivo like FFWD and REW. I have been using the skip but commercials are of different lengths. I hate skipping one too many times and then having to rewind to the beginning of that show's segment. I would much rather have a Tivo like FFWD and REW.

Alternatively, I would like Commercial Skip. I didn't really care for ReplayTV but I did like this feature. It seemed pretty reliable although I didn't test it for long before taking it back.

I'm a big ReplayTV fanboy. For me the Commercial Skip. is its best feature. It's right on the money 85% to 90% of the time. I would like the have that feature on my HTPC...............But I think I read someware here that Frey Tech will not touch that feature with a ten foot pole...........Fear of Big Hollywood and their very mean lawyers

I have a Tivo but I am going to sell it once I get SageTV and my MediaMVPs setup. Or if I have good luck with XBox MediaCenter I might use that.

I bought a couple of ReplayTVs right around Christmas when they were $150 plus 3 years of service. I returned then when they originally said they weren't honoring the 3 years of service due to the price change. Basically, ReplayTV and the retailers didn't have their act together and tried to make a huge change during the Christmas season. How stupid.

And that stupid comment brings me to ReplayTV. I really like the commercial skip and liked the interface with a PC and other ReplayTVs even more. However, I thought the remote and UI sucked. For version 5 of the software, they should have been further along and should have paid more attention to what Tivo was doing. They kept adding geewiz features (that got them in hot water with said media companies) when they should have been getting the basics tight and in order. But that is my opinion. Most people either like Tivo or ReplayTV but usually not both.

Bummer, I heard they eventually agreed to honor the service contract?

On the subject of Tivo like FF/RW:
I've seen people post about the play faster/slower feature that is already in Sage(as of 1.4.10). Has anyone gotten it to work? For me it just stops the video playback til I release the button/key. Once released the video continues to play back at normal speed from the exact point I tried to use the feature. I ask because if it works for eveyone else I guess I should file a bug report.

Feedback would be appreciated.

Yes one week later DNNA/Replaytv caved. what happen was when news started to reach the big press, they did a 180 degree turn and honored the service. I have one of them $149.00 5040's in my bedroom right now

If the ReplayTV interface had been nicer I might actually have been bummed. It would have been nice to have but it doesn't bother me that much.
