Adding hard drive - windows won't recognize it..
Strange problem...probably because I don't understand Raid well enough..
2 Years ago when I built my HTPC, I installed (2) 250GB Hard drives and put them in a RAID 0.. these were my only hard files and thus the system also booted from these. I just bought a 160 GB hard drive to add to this system. It's Sata 2..the others are connected to SATA 1 connectors... I hoped it would be as easy as connecting the new drive and my system would recognize it and I would have my current Raid 0 at 500GB and my new 160 GB file. My system sees the drive. I can go into the BIOS setup while booting up and see the drive name..so its recognized and when windows loaded, it told me that I had a new hardware device found and then it installed it and said it was installed.. I go to "my computer" and its not there. I go into device manager and its not there. I've restarted many times, I've looked around in the BIOS and the Raid controllers...I can't figure it out. Any ideas??? (frustrating) Thanks, Gary Ellis |

Go to Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management. Find the newly added drive. Right Click and Format. Change the Allocation Size from default to 64K if it is to be a Sage recording drive. When done right-click and mark the partion active.

I would try to look at it with a partitioning tool. Since you are not seeing it in Windows, I would suggest a bootable floppy or CD, such as BootItNG from Terabyte (http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/boo...generation.htm), or the PartedMagic LiveCD (http://partedmagic.com/wiki/PartedMagic.php), and there are others, whatever you are comfortable with.
I would also recommend you provide more detail about your hardware, especially the motherboard, disk controllers, and hard drives. |
