USB-IRT quits working after resume from standby

Hello, I’ve tried for weeks and can’t get the usb-irt to change channels after a resume from s3 standby. Before I try setting up the MCE blaster I’ll try and pick everyone’s brain. The usb-irt won’t work after standby until I close Sage and Sage Service then restart the service. Sage wakes up to record but it records the last channel viewed.

Thanks Deborah

Go into Device Manager and find the USB root hub that the USB-UIRT is plugged into and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." If you can't figure out which one do it to all the USB root hubs. (Or one at a time until you find it.)

You went to Device Manager-Universal Serial Bus Controllers-USB Root Hub? There should be a tab called Power Management where you would uncheck it. For every PC and laptop I own I see a USB Root Hub with this tab.

Yes I went there, and checked everyone. I see the usbirt but there's not a power management tab. There is a power tab that says the hub is self powered. I do have the power management tab in the keyboard and mouse area, but not on any usb hubs or anything in the usb section.

That just sounds strange. I had to make that change when I had the usb-uirt on my server and then when I had moved it to a PC client. The other week I had it on a laptop for a test and needed to set it the same way or it wouldn't work after the laptop went to sleep.

Are you running Vista or XP? Plain or MCE edition? The MCE receiver and remote works better for the laptop for putting the laptop to sleep with the remote's power button. I have to use the laptop's power button to wake it up.

I have XP Pro. I just checked my other desktop and it has the power management tab for usb hubs. I guess I'll do some reading to find out why I don't have it on this machine. The usbirt will work fine if I close Sage TV and Sage Service and then start them again. Thank you for your help.

I also can not get my IR Blaster to work when PC resuming from s3 sleep. I have an actisys 200L which connects to pc serial port. Maybe a script to close and re-start Sage (and Service) on resume would do the job?

Sounds like a case of needing the USB registry hack mentioned here. I just had to do it to get the tabs to show up, and to get the USB-UIRT to wake my system from S3 standby.

Hey -thanks Kricker for the response. Unfortunately my IR blaster connects to the serial port so I don't think this will work for me, but should help those with usb IR blasters. I guess its not really a major to get a usb IR blaster but, you know, you already have something that works for the most part so seems a waste to have to replace it.

I've asked Sage if they have a solution so will see what they have to say. Strange issue. If I re-start the service it fixes the problem.

Appreciate your response to the issue.

Oh serial...I skipped over that part thinking it was something else. Good luck with that.

Fix for non-responsive IR after system resume

Just in case anyone else has this problem, I installed a freeware program called 'Hibernate Trigger' which will run any file/script on PC wake up.

I just applied a simple script which stops the Sage Service and restarts it again. Hibernate Trigger runs this script everytime my PC resumes from s3 stand-by.

My Actisys IR then performs without problems.

.bat file
--- begin ---
net stop "SageTV"
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 -w 1000 > nul
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n %1% -w 1000> nul
net start "SageTV"
--- end ---
