Best Romotes to use with Extenders

I have a small issue and I have searched though many threads and can't find a good answer.
I have 3 Extenders running 1 HD 100 and 2 MVPs the HD 100. I have a Harmony 880 running and it is great. The issue is the 2 MVPs they are in bedrooms. What I am looking for is a good remote that will control the MVP and the TVs power and volume. I would rather not pay for a couple of harmony's as i think it is over kill for this.

Any "learning" style remote would work for this. I had a One-for-all I used for a long time. It's a bit annoying having to manually set each button, but if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to a Harmony, that could be a way to go.....

I favor my Tivo remote, classic design & feel. I use Tivo remotes for my HD extenders as will as the server (with USB-UIRT).

You can have those available thru the LCD sceen and hard buttons along the screen's side. Any or all of the commands can be there. 6 at a time-3 on each side. (Those are the silver buttons on each side of the LCD screen from the link above.) You would have to page thru the screens if you have alot. I have 2 pages-1st page is the wife's buttons and more intense ones-like setup are on page 2. She never goes past the first screen.

Either the older 6131 (here or the newer 6131n here are good choices.

You will need to get them upgraded by OneForAll for jp1 capability, or have them just add the codes you need for your devices (they control the HD & SD extenders just fine once the proper code is added). The 6131 is like 6.95 (with a much nicer control layout), or 2.95 for the newer ones. Get several and keep them as spares, lol. I have like 10 of the 6131n's now, and plan on ordering a few more 6131's as backups for my single 6131 I have...

Just so it's clear, out of the box so to speak they won't control either extender, but you can send them back to UEI (OneForAll), and they will upgrade them for free (also adding the header & chips required by the JP1 interface) and send them back. Takes about a week. Then just order a JP1 interface (or build one), and you can make programming changes, move buttons around, etc pretty easily..

Had no idea you could send back and and they would set it up for JP1. used to have a few remotes and was in to the JP1 Seen 15 years ago. Like I said previously I order 1 harmony for the bed room and am getting a 6131 for the kids. I think I have a JP1 connect around somewhere but if not will make another one.

Thanks All for all the information.

This thread has the info for adding the extenders to those remotes. Even has the downloadable code for both the HD & SD extenders ready for putting in a JP1-capable remote. I think he even mentions where to call about getting the remotes upgraded.

When the ones I ordered the other day come in, I may end up upgrading them myself (not too difficult, they are just hard as the devil to open) with 2k eeproms, as it's looking like I may need more room than the 1k eeprom gives you...
