Unhappy Video freeze at same place and general stability problems

The only repeatable problem I've been able to reproduce is that when I try to watch a recording it will get to a certain point in the video (usually about 20 minutes in) and freeze, always at the same place. What usually follows is a BSOD or the system hangs and when I try to restart it will BSOD. I've played the problematic video files in VLC and they play with no problems. And other than that Sage is just generally unstable. Only with the HD stuff. Here's my setup...

GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM mobo with 4200 AMD dual core
Hauppage HVR1600 (using QAM - have latest driver installed)
Windows XP Pro with Sage 6.10 and SageMC - problems were occurring before SageMC install
500gig HD, 2 gigs RAM
Using HDMI and SPDIF

CPU usag is usually around 10-15% while watching HD.
Thanks. I was really hoping to have this all setup by now after my initial excitement at the smooth install...

Try uninstallig SageTV, then reinstall it. See this FAQ about resetting the configuration in the process. Also, remove any customizations and use just the default setup until you have it working properly. If that doesn't work, contact support & maybe they can help track down the issue.

I tried using the intervideo decoder which seemed to fix the freezing problem, but the general unstability is still there. Did a fresh complete install of Sage without any special mods/plugins and still had multiple crashes of sage. Recommendations?

You are sure that the stability is a Sage issue? Often times a hardware issue, can mask itself as a software issue. Have you tried running a burn in test to make sure that your system truly is stable? I had the same issue and it turned out that a memory stick had gone bad. I didn't notice it except running Sage because that is the only time my system really need the extra ram.

I do wonder if there is a different problem. How do I run a burn in test?

Try this:
http://www.passmark.com/products/bit.htm

You should be able to use it for 30 days without having to register and within one run you should know if there are any stability issues with your system.

Ran the burn in test and no problems... which is actually disappointing.
