Level expansion matching SD and HD
It seems to be an accepted fact on the avsforum that both ATI and nVidia drivers do level expansion (16-235)->(0-255) for HD video.
On my client HD looks good - proper levels seem to be going on. So I must assume that the TV connected to the client is in "receiving expanded levels" mode. I have noticed that SD is often washed out. I'm starting to think that this is because the SD video is NOT getting expanded. Is that a reasonable conclusion? What should one do if that is the case? btl.

If it's an ATI card, then there's a registry setting to force expansion of SD. If it's nVidia, I'm not sure what to tell ya, I've never heard of nVidia treating HD and SD differently.

With Nvidia 169.25, everything works fine for me. If I load the 174 beta drivers, PDVD is fine, but Sage is *over*expanded....bringing Sage back down to 16-235 crushes PDVD. I think it's a problem between EVR(PDVD) and VMR(Sage). Hopefully Nvidia can fix it, or Sage can go EVR.
