Unhappy Problems w/ Properties File

Hello Everyone! Great forum and great software! I love it! I just have one question at the moment. I'm trying to change the FFWD2 setting in the properties file to 3 minutes instead of the default 2.5 minutes (I find myself typically advancing another 30 seconds to get through commercials), and sometimes I can't get the properties file to save my changes. I'll save the changes, but then when I open the properties file back up, it is back to the default 150000ms. When I finally got the FFWD2 setting to save the 180000ms it would still only advance 2.5 minutes. Could someone shed some light as to why when I change my properties settings sometimes it won't save it and when it finally does, it's not implementing the change in the program? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure you exit (not just sleep) Sage before you edit the properties file. I think Sage reads it on open, and writes it back on close, so anything you do while Sage is running is lost.

Thanks for the reply stanger89. I'll have to remember that for future changes to my properties file. Any clue though as to why the 180000ms setting for FFWD2 is not working and it still defaults to 150000ms? The changes have been saved in the properties file, but it still only moves 2.5 minutes at a time. No matter what time I assign to this property, it always only moves 2.5 minutes.

Maybe show us the relevant section of your properties file?

These are the values you are editing, correct?

videoframe/ff_time=10000
videoframe/ff_time2=150000
videoframe/rew_time=-10000
videoframe/rew_time2=-150000

And, you are now editing the properties file only after exiting SageTV? No changes at all while it is running or sleeping?

Simply double-checking...

- Andy

I just found out there is also a related property:

ui/time_scroll_amount=150000

So, does this override the ff2/rew2 values? What is the difference between the time_scroll value & the ff2/rew2 values? And, is this the cause of the confusion that started this thread?

- Andy

P.S. The forum's search function seems a bit strange... I searched for phrases in this thread, since I couldn't remember where this conversation was, but it never came up as a search result. Of course, those search words _were_ here, as I discovered once I found this thread again.

Got the answer. Read this post & the next answer I got. That explains the difference between time_scroll and ff2/rew2 & probably is the answer to this thread.
