sagetv not "closing" files when recording complete

Why does sagetv not release some files after recording is complete? I have to close the sagetv program completely before I can play/move/delete some of the recordings (but not all of them).

This makes playing files over the network impossible without going to the machine doing the recording, close and reopen sagetv. This also breaks a recording into multiple pieces and loses a minute or so of a recording if it's in the middle of one when I restart it.

Very annoying.

sagetv version 6 I believe

Are you trying to play them with a sage client, or directly? I've never had a problem with using clients to play (even while recording), although I've not moved recordings. If you're recording with sage to play directly on a regular PC, I would guess that's not the preferred way to do it. Try placeshifter and see if it does the same in that.

What recording quality is being used? MPEG1 files cannot be recorded & played at the same time.

Do you have some customization like Comskip that has the file open? You can use Process Explorer to find the file handle & see what app has it open.

I use a batch encoder to compress the mpg files down to 1/10 of their original size, put them on a jump drive to watch at other locations.

I've tried placeshifter (bought it) but have to lower the quality soo much to get a steady stream, the picture quality goes completely to crap.

Over the course of a day, I might have 8 30 minute clips recorded, 4 or 5 of them not accessible unless I exit sagetv. When I exit sagetv, all the "locked" files' last edited dates jump to the same time (which is the time it was when I exited sagetv).

It's like the program is pausing the recording while it goes on to another channel/tv show and starts another recording.

Sagetv is a great program but this one flaw is irritating me to no end.

btw, I tried that process monitor program off microsoft's website and it hardlocked my capture machine.
