HD-PVR: Firewire channel changing?

Hi,

I believet hat SageTV can be configured to execute a program to change channels. I'd like to do so with the HD-PVR so that I can use Firewaire to change the channels instead of the quirky looking IR blaster.

Does anyone have ideas on how to do this?

This whole thread talks about firewire recording and channel changing. I know there is quite a bit to go through, since I recently did it myself -- here is my post about what I did to control my SA 4250HD boxes via firewire. I think MeInMaui's document in the downloads section was a good starting point & there is a link to it in the post I just referenced.

I havent had a chance to look at my new HD PVR yet, nor recall how my cable STB via firewire is setup, but shouldnt it be rather easy for me to add the HD PVR with firewire channel changing, since its already setup? Having only 1 STB, I assume I dont need ExeMultiTuner plugin, and just point the external tuning to the location for channelw.exe? Guess I might need to revisit the whole setup instructions for firewire, ugh!

I would think that all you need to do is remove the source currently using the STB and setup the new source with the tuning plugin set the same way it was when you get to that point of source setup in SageTV -- SageTV is the one doing the channel changing, not the HD PVR, so your tuning method should be the same as it was.

ok, hope it is that easy.

Now I wonder how easy/difficult (if even possible) it would be to have some sort of add-on for navigating the STB's VOD menus? That would probably be a pain, unless the firewire channel commands include things like "up" "down" "left" "right" etc. Maybe it would be easier just to program in a sub-menu in my programmable remote to jump to STB controls for whenever I enter channel "999" (a macro command to change channels, then switch to STB control mode). Guess I should search for this kind of stuff rather than just asking (I really should know better!)

It's as easy as Andy says. I migrated from a Hauppauge 250 to the HD PVR, I just deleted the old video source, added the HD PVR and selected the USBUIRT for changing the channels. Works great (except a slight audio delay).
